OCT 1 e uilhculty in organizing tue acne, originated from a report that Gov. Wil-

lard. had determined to refuse to swear in the n ioird or w tic .v.ian

three Republican Senators whose seats were

contested, and by refusing them seats, a tie

would be produced, which would give tue casting vote to the chair. This report produced great excitement, and the Republicans to de

feat this intended outrage of tho Democrats and

to anticipate their opponents by organizing at

an eariv nour oy tnemseives, assembled

in the Senate Chamber for that purpose. -The Democrats assembled at the same time and began their organization. Both parties proceeding at once, produced a scene of con;us o ', which was in'reaed by an excited crowd in the lobbies. Both parties went into the election of officers, and went through with it. Each one had a clerk, and it was ludicrous Fometimos to hear them calling

their roils and receiving responses, at the

Jsame time, until ineir iragiamemary or

ganizations were periocted, there was no de

bating or speaking. Lach party seemed bent

on going straight ahead and breaking down the other. But after the ofiicers were elected

they had to talk, and then came charges, explanations and threats. Finally after a declaration from Gov. Willard that the reports of any improper design on his part were fi'se,

tha Ilepubl cans yielded and the bunate was duly organised in the old way and the members whose seats were contested, sworn in.
