on the 6th of noxt month, to decide whether the Court - House In that city shall be completed or not. It Is to be hoped that the unsightly pile will be torn away. V-J We have no change to note In the river. It is Tallin at Louisville and Cincinnati, with. thirty-three inches In the channel below Cincinnati. Should tha
. present cloudy weaker continue, there will be some ' prospect of moro water. JJ-JThe pr-rk season has fa rly commenced in LouieYi'.le. though tho warm weather of the part few days has c uaed tne slanfrherinj to be suspended. The prices being paid are $1,25 on foot, and $3,25 net, for cnolce lote. "JÜ" "no Louisville Courier says that the Henderson Rrporltr, "another Know Nothing; .organ, lias breached Us last." The lfpportoris not a Know Nothing paper, and still lives, tlioufh at a "dying rate." We opine that It never had a superfluity ,-f the vital principle hont It. TFT The river business has revived materially ot St. Louis, On Monday, there were seventeen arrivals "at that port. Pive from tho Ohio the Woodsidc, Hl"hernia, S. P. Ilibbard, Eunice, Minerva, St. Louis, A. -O. Mason and Laclede, were advertised In Tuesday papers for Louisville and Cincinnati. The river was slowly rising at that point on Monday. ITFSome of our Western boats were nearly wrecked In tha gale of Friday last. The Cinciunuti packet Moses McLellan lost her stove pipes, nnd in fact everything mo veal ile on board went into the river. The passengers were very much alarmed, fears being entertained that the boat wncld take fire. The coolness of Capt. Cutterlin raved the boat. JTT'Atthe recent session of the Federal Court in Huntsville, Ala., This. Cashlons, of Marion county, was sentenced to the penitentiary for ten, end John Montgomery, of Blount, for fifteen yeyirs both for robbing the malls the former as Postmaster at Toll Gate, and, the latter as mail rider from Blountsrille to Whitesburg. Cashlons is quite an old man, about CO years of ago7"and Montgomery is a youth, not more than 18 years oM. Jjjj A correspondent of the Now York Tribune, a spiritualist, having lost a valuable bull-pup, invokes the plrlt of his grandmother, in order to discover the whereabouts of the missing canine. The medium, af- ' ... ... , .... .. . . iir o I'uLicub wa'im, rnis out tue woru n ark, ana before the disconsolate loser of the pup is aware of tho fact, the door opons and his dogship presents . himself. The writer rightly bolievos that tho startling revelation concerning the "bull pup" cannot fail to vanish the most obstinate skepticism. ILr" The Madison Courier has waked op to the fact, that the city of Madison is going down hill, or has gone down" already. It mentions the sale of a large dwelling house In that place, on one of the t-est streets, for $1,600. The Courier says that such a dwelling house "would have brought a larger sum under the hammer" In the village of Vernon, back of Madison. Sixteen hundred dollars will not buy a desirable building lot, anywhere near bnsiness, in Evansviile, to say nothing of a house with it. Wrckly Jormsat,. We issue this morningas usual the Weekly Journal, filled with reading matter. The Weekly Journal Is now in Its twentr-lliird year, ard has an extensive circulation In this District, nnd in Southrn Illinois. A limited number of advertisements are taken for publication In the Weekly, and we rocommend its columns to the patronage of our wholesale houses. We should be pleased to know that our merchants when out on theirbiuiness trips did afl thatthey could to extend the circulation of our home papers. Every man Interested in the prosperity of F.vansville, Is benefited by any Increase in the circulation of Evansviile papers. Copies done up in strong wrappers for nailing con be obtalred at the Sanctum this morning. Milk Sickkiss. This strange and dreadful malad y is . prevailing to an alarming extent in different parts of he West. It has been observed that this peculiar illness makes lis appearance in times of unusual drouth. Along the Licking river. In Kentucky, It is prevailing, spreading terror and death wherever it manifests itself. The first symptoms observed, are weakness, trembling of the limbs, and general Impotency of the muscles. We have already spoken of Us prevalence in Illinois, and we learn from a friend, living In New Harmony -thrtH has made its appearance In that ricjnily. The people are afraid to use milk, butter or beef, without knowing all about it. We are iu hopes that the reports which have tome to us are exaggerated, as the very idea of the prevalence of-this mysterious malady is (terrible. We will undertake to eiTo some further particulars in a day or two, of the phenomena of this trange malady. JLj The tide of travel that has set In toward Wheatland, is embarrassing to "Old Buck," and highly remniterative to the pockets of lucky Railroad companies. The candidate of yesterday with an uncertain chance for the Presidency, is to-day a miracle of greatness, and -the only wonder is, how any one voted against him . A ew more months, when tho hundred thousand offices tvare been disposed of, he wttl be very ordinary old .gentleman, admired ty those who in the scramble for polls, grt any, and cursed bv those who scrambled Just as hard, aud will still be left "upon the charities of the world." A few thousand votes less In Pennsylvania and Wheatland would have been left undisturbed by the rush of eager visitors. Jas. Buchanan would have been simply the "platform, and so soon forgotten. "It's an 111 wind that blows nobody good," and the Lancaster papers say that hotel beeping in that place is .very lucrative at present. The quietelty of Lancaster is .being astonished at the crowd of Bankers who are desirous of "paying their respects to the President elect. H la estimated that the mission of Earl GranvilVo to Moscow, as the Extraordinary Embassador of England at the coronation of the Czar, will cost the country from $125,000 to 8175,000. The suite of the noble Earl included nearly forty persons.
Lectcee 'i Crescent Crrr Hall. Mr. Patterson will deliver Lis lecture upon Heathen Mythology, this evening. We hope to see a full attendance as the subject is one of deep
interest, and the lecturer is capable of presenting it in a manner that cannot fail to please. Go and hear it by all means. Official Vote of Ohio. Columbus, Nov. 24. '.. The officially declared vote of the State of Ohio stands thus: Fremont 137,407; , Buchanan 170,874; Fillmore 28,125; Gerritt Smith 156. 07" On the morning of the 2Gth ult., a man went to bathe in the sea, near the Puma, Havana; a shark seized him, tore away a part of his person and cruelly lacerated his thih. The poor fellow was so frightened that upon getting on shore he seized his shirt, but without pausing to put it on, ran away with it in his hand. A policeman met him and pursued him. lie was not overtaken, however, until ! he reached the Calle de San Rafael. He was taken to a hospital, where he soon expired. frT Hm. sLimrhtfirin r was commenced at Mansur's house, on White river, last week. The season may be said now to be fairly open ed. Arrivals have not thus far been heavy th0 inactivity of the Ohio river and Northern markets somewhat affect this. We Quote CS 4R tit 4.5 RO fiures not nredicated on ! ! actual transactions. m. Oas. It is said, however, that the offers cannot be accepted, the advertisements calling for fish oil. (VrThe Boston Chronicle states that a col-' ored man named Butler, belonging to New. .
