HALE, of Watath. fj3'The Democrat of 1832" (Dr Hutchinson) is informed that the editor of this paper will be at home to-morrow evening, at which time he can see the lots and examine the title. We saw Df.'-IIutchinsoH on the morning of Wednesday and proposed to hi in to close in with the offer made by Mr. Sanders. At that time, he said he wouk" not take it, but would bet on Buchanan. Before the boat upon which Mr. Sanders left, was out of sight, he appeared -to accept the proposition, pulling out his watch in order that there might be no mis-. apprehension as to the hour of his visit. Of course, the Dr. was net aware of Mr. Sanders' absence! Vote for the best lit n. The desperate efforts of Old Liners to induce the faithful to vote the "straight ticket," will be unavailing. Many who vote for Willard will vote for Ingle. The time when two or three party leaders can mark the tickets of a whole township, ha gone by. Unfortunately for the success of Old Line candidates, the Feople will judge of the relative merits of the candidates, and they will vote for the best men. Of the success of Mobton, we have not a doubt. The only question is, what shall bo his majority ? Willard may carry this district by a small ra-ijontyi and perhaps the second, but we can see no possible chance for him in the other Congressional Districts. Never before was the opposition to Democracy so powerful as now. Never did the Old Line party present a ticket so repugnant to the masses as the one nominated in January. How any man can vote for Willard, who has seen Judge Morton, we cannot imagine. The votes cast for Willard will be confined to that wing of the Democratic party, who vote for the nominees of their conventions, though the nominees as are unfitted for offices of trust as Willard and Hammond. We envy no m m, who goes to the ballot box to vote for men he knows are disqualified, simply because the wire-workers of his party have placed those men in nomination. The fact that Wright and Bright are endeavoring to sacrifice Wil lard to advance their own corrupt designs, is an evidence of the way things are ixanaged in the Old Line ptrty. Everything must be done to secure ojke; beyond that, they have not a thought or care. In the name of the Consti t'it:o'i,t.hey seek to advance their own pe-sonul interests. They talk loudly of the people, &nd use them as a stepping stone to power. They dilate upon the " compact our fathers made," and repeal a Compromise in the words of Douglas " Canonized in the hearts of the American people." They talk of the consistency of the " Democratic party," and denounce as abolitionists men who stand where they stood ix years ago. They declare that the people must settle the question' of slavery for themselves, when In 181!), they thought that " Congress had the right" to settle the question for them. Stephen A. Douglas sends forth his fiat, that the Missouri Compromise is a " self-evident lie," and forthwith, every member of the party sees- that it always was a " lie." The leading organs of the party, from the Cincinnati Enquirer, down to its worthless namesake in Evansville, are busy circulating falsehoods in relation to Kansas, hoping thereby to screen the administration of Franklin Pierce fiom the contempt it deserves, and elevate to the Presidency a man pledged to carry out the contemptible policy of his predecessor. We ask candid voters to look at the men presented by that party fur their suffrages. .From Buchanan and Breckinridge, the " big guns," to Hall, the smallest pop-gun of Old I.;neism, we find them all equally unqualified. The same scheming wire-working, which nominated Buchanan and Willard, was displayed in a very small way, in the nomination. of Denby and Hall. And now the Enquirer whines out "vote the straight ticket. Procure one, printed at our office, upon which is our name for the Sheriffality, and without scratching out a name, deposit it in the ballot box, and save the Union !" 07" The candidates for Representative and other county offices speak this afternoon at about 2 o'clock at Baby town. Baby town is a pretty village somewhat remarkable for babies from which it takes its name and is only a mile or two from Evansville, thus affording an excellent opportunity for a pleasant ride and good sport. , . ST.4S3 Meeting. The Hon. "Humphry Marshall will address the citizens of Henderson, to-morrow at one o'clock. We hope our citizens will avail themselves of this opportunity of hearing this stauch American, and go down.
UT we give up a large portion oi our cui-, ls a trick in it. Let every man vote his senumus to-day to our correspondents. ' timentä in each particular case.
- , - Oar County Fair. ! Next week, the Vanderburg Agricultural Association will hold the second annual County Fair. Thfl book for intries, is now at Mr. llornbrook's, and it is desirable that exhibitors
should enter their articles as soon as possible. Everything as b.en done by the managers to secure a crowd, and we are assured that the l i :tt u i, n. Tf lilUWU Will UC bUClC. U J CC Jf'HUjr. XI UU have anything worthy of exhibition, take it with you. If you have nothing, go, to see what Vanderburg can do, in the way of a Fair. The collecton may riot be very large, in comparison with old established Fairs, but it is our Fair and that is sufficient reason to induce every man to go, and take with him, all he can. Mr. Hornbrook is laboring zealously to complete all the arrangments, and we know that he will do all in his power to accommodate exhibitors, and secure a crowd. - It is important to the citizens of this county that this enterprise should succeed and to insure this desirable end, every man and woman in tlie countv should contribute their mite to the exhibition. The society has decided that each exhibitor by "the payment of one doli; r. and the entry free (which is 10 per cent on the premium offered) shall have a Badge presented to them which will enable them to enter the F, I grounds during the Fair: in other words the Society offers a premium to exhibitors. All those who reflect on this subject will agree with us that tire prosperity of our Farmers, Merchants, Artizans, and Horticulturists depend much on the success of this our first effort. The farmer will by making an exhibition of the products of his farm, be able to show his co-workers what can be done by his mode of culture and breeding. The mechanic can show the pioduct of his hands. The artisan the result of his labors ; the Horticulturist the product of his labors of mind and hands) hence ! all can advertise; all can confer one with another on the subjects before them,, thereby srivinsr much useful information. Besides it will be the means of bringing the Bockel into notice. In view of these facts, let every citizen of the county come up and become members of this Society, and by this means place in its hands the mean3 to purchase the premiums offered. Let one and all aid in this enterprise, which is cal u'.ated to enure to the benefit of all. We are informed that the Society have spared ho pains in making their Fair grounds not only convenient but pleasing to the eye, and to please the ear, they have secured tho services of the New Harmony Baud. We cannot close this short and imperfect ar ticle without giving praise to the officers of the Society for their untiring energy in catering so well for the public taste. Let all go, and thus aid in doing something for our city and county. We are informed that during the Fair a concert and perhaps a ball will be given, so that those whose tastes run in that line may be gratified. .Bltthb Hvnes, Esq.. will deliver the address on the last day of the Fair. His known ab iity is a sufficient guarantee that the address will be a good one. TreaVon. Gov. Wise the notorious Governor of Virginia is endeavoring with the aid of that delectabla sheet. "The Richmond Enquirer" to convict Mr. Botts of treason. The Baltimore Patriot with its usual manliness defends Mr. Botts, and pours a broadside into the Old Line Governor, which tells. He shook them at Wise, and Wise pocketed them!" ... "; . In regard to the braggart threats of lynching and hanging so freely made against him by the Richmond Enquirer, Mr. Botts said that he might be overcome, as he never carried arms, but the difficulty was to find some one to head the line to attack him. lie read the definition of treason as decided in the Burr case, to show that some overt act was necessary to constitute the crime. first story, but upon hearing the other side of the question, was at a loss how to determine The candid discerning mind, whether waver ing heretofore in uncertainty, halting between two opinions, or decidedly sympathizing with the Old Line party, must, after having listened to the speech of James Lockhart, at Apollo Hall, on last Tuesday, either declare his utter abhorrence of the doctrines then and there promulgated, or else acknowledge his readiness to swallow the vilest compound in political pharmacy, when prescribed by Democratic quacks. Judge Lockhart is the Democratic candidate for Congress; not so- from their choice, i fu j tr. r., ...i,,. tu.u.r...ai.u u.uuu j iv i i : . : . i i t- : I.: u : ., ?uwu ,orior" a""" P-'5 " own convention, and thus forcing himself upon a party who are disgusted with the man, though bound to support him since nominated; and we might also add through additional influences that smell strongly of Marine Hospital appropriations. As to his private reputation I have nothing to do with it here, and besides, it is contrary to my principle to disturb the dead. He is well known all over the District. His fame is . notoriety. In his spoech on last Tuesday, whether yielding to the force of ad imperious habit, or presuming largely upon the gullibility of the masses, (he best knows.) he found.as usual, that gross misrepresesentation answered his purpose better than familiar truths. He made a wilful misstatement when he declared that the Old Whig party were with him on the policy promulged by the Ostend Conlerence, and in this as well as all the other doctrines engrafted by the Cincinnati resolutions, he committed himself as an extremist. He bowed mournfully over the grave of the lamented Henry Clay, and called upon his shade to bear him out in his declaration of unanimity, well knowing that the ghost of that illustrious man would be as dumb to his call as was bis own voice when interrogated by Mr. Veatch, as to the right of the people of a territory to exclude slavery before t'ie adoption of a constitution for a Sute government. He gives Mr. Clay's dec laration that no power under Heaven could ever induce him to vote for the extension of ' slavery over one foot more of our territory, a ! pretty wide berth, and then immediately fol lowing his affiliation (!) as he professes," with the old Whigs on the question of territorial acquisition Southward, or in any other direction;' be very indiscreetly proclaims to his audience that in the event of his being returned to Congress, he will, should the opportunity offer, "vote men, money and munitions of war, to seize Cuba forcibly, if we must." These were his own words. Does J udge Lockhart desire to give his reputation for candor and veracity any worse color than it already has, by throwing his fillibustering arms around the Old Whig party, and calling it affiliation, with the acts of the "Washington like" Fillmore Administration, so fresh in our memories, or shall it be attributed to forgetfulnesg and imbecility ? 0ne of the two-dis honesty or weakness it must be, and I rould traitg him . , , , . ,. . ... Ocularly for representing a district like ours in the National Legislature ? And lastly, Judge Lockhart declares that the Comnroillise of I82Ü has been a source of in and out of tne üniteJ States Sena1e for the last thirty-five years. I have no doubt but that he would Das s" the same sentence nnnn tho Holy Scriplures and all lawöboth huillan and divine, if he dared, because they restrain the passions of men, and because the Bible declares that without the law there is no sin, producing necessarily a conflict between the j kingdom of Christ and the myrmidons of the Devil. However, that question is not worth discussing, as their own record but one adminittration back contradicts and condemns him. The teachings of the Bible called forth the tracts of Paine, Robespierre and Voltaire; so the Missouri Compromise called forth tha subsequent antagonistic measures of the De mocratic party; they declaring with each measure that it should be considered a finalty which, however, with that party, means nothing, as the very nature of the case makes a violation of all promises a necessity, as a desperate resort to sustain its fast sinking existence. Such leaders as Lockhart and.Willard have created a maelstrom in which they are themselves fast sinking, and the waters of the political sea will soon close quietly over them as though they hai njver been. That Mr. Veatch has completely "surrounded" Lockhart is undeniable, his own course indicates the desperation of bis condition. And if J udge Lockhart will only agree to repeat his speech of last Tuesday all ovor the District, Mr. V. may save himself any farther trouble, for the people who would support a man with the sentiments which Lockhart entertains, would . .. . . vote for he Devil, though horns, hoof and rl,1 .nnani1TO worn annerant .TOHW.
