A new iron front will be put up immediately. OjrMiss Barker was yesterday receiving and opening a beautiful lot of fancy millenery, &.C, &c, elegant enough to fascinate ladies and distract husbands. Iler show window presents a charming appearance. Buckwheat Crop. The farmers in the vicinity of Trenton, N. J. are reaping their buckwheat, and all agree in saying that the crop is much over an average. Indeed, it is believed that it is better than for some years. QT The New York Mirror, a Republican Journal, says: "Parker, King and Brooks, are each and all eminently fitted for office, but we hava had a presentiment for the last twelve months; that Brooks 5s the inevitable next Governor of New York." 0"5 The great American Mass Meeting comes of to-morrow, at Terre Haute. The meeting will be one of the largest of the campaign, and Evansville should be represented. We have already heard of a number who intended to go. 0"5" The down train on Saturday evening brought the largest number of passengers we have noticed atone time. Country merchants coming to buy goods; stockholders in the Railroad coming to the election of officers which was held yesterday, and Kentuckians homeward bound. The schooner Arab, hence for Fairfield with a cargo of merchandize, was run into off Square Beach, and had her bulwarks cut down to the water's edge. She has been towed back to thii city for repairs. Political Excitement Iiot. Baltimore, Oct. 6. The political excitement pervading our city has become in time and to-day four riots have occurred in different parts of the city all proceeding from this cause. The most serious difficulty orriginated from reports that the Democrats have imported a party of Nev York roughs to do the fighting at the polls at the election for Mayor Wednesday next. The head quarts of the Empire club, and subsequently a tavern on market space were attacked by a mob. In both instances the assailants Were driven Oil by the USe OF the lire arms. J I Only one man was shot arid a number of oth-1 J j ers were seriously beaten, lhere were great number of discharges of fire arms, and immense crowds congregated in the vicinity. Anticipated Duel. Washington, Oct. 6. A telegraphic dispatch has been received from Richmond, Va., stating that B. B. Butts and Mr. Prior had left that city, and it was supposed for the purpose of fighting a duel in the vicinity of this city. The public are cn the look out for the purpose of preventing the meeting. Chicago, Oct. 6. Receipts of Rock Island Railroad for September amount to 213,358; last year S141,790. Chicago & Galena $336,239; last year $261,370. Illinois Central $281,941; last year $160,918. land sales for September 664,786. Pittsburgh, Oct. 6. River two feet by the metal mark and falling. Weather clear and mild. Cincinnati, Oct. 6. River about stationary at 18 inches. Weather clear and mild. Fire in Sew York. New York, Oct. 3. The large warehouse at the corner of Washington and Barclay streets, was totally destrove 1 by fire last night. The building was not entirely finished. It was eisrht stories hirh, and was built by Mr. Lilienthal for his tobtcco factory. The loss amounts to $75,000. Part of the wall (ell, completely demolishing the adjoining building occupied by Mr. Lilienthal. Sew York State Fair. Watertown, N. Y., Oct. 2. The fine weather attracted a great concourse of visitors. The entries are now more numerous than at any previous Fair, and the stock is very superior. Michigan State Fair. Detroit, Oct. 2.
