HALE, of Walatb. s'. : 4. r Old Hear Clay Whig " Of all political mysteries-the deepest ray tery to us is, howr any old Henry Clay Whig, or any old wing possessea or a sparic oi pout ical honesty can Tote for Buchanan. There are but few; who can or will do this, but there are still some who will do it. Even if Fillmore were not on the track, it would seem strange that " any" man who is a Whig,' should vote with a' party which made it a business t traduce and villi fy and , misrepresent every act principle .and leading man, of the old Whig" party, and vote with them to raise to the ' Presidency . the very man whose base Blander upOni Henry Clay, prevented that man whose his name- was three times presented as a candidate be fore-the-American people for the Presidency, from being placed in that position. If these Whigs have a 6park of the old Whig feeling left, it appears to us they should scorn any proposal having for its object the direct e-r indirect support of their former, villifiers especially, when they have a candidate more truly representing their own feelings and principles as Whigs than the last Whig candidate they supported for the Presidency. Millard Hilmare, o whose Administration they were so proud, and who is as much a representative of the old Whig party as he is of the bew American party, is now one of the three candidates for next President. Can any old Wig, vpte for Buchanan, the slanderer of .Clay, while Fillmore is claiming his vote?' Hear a yoice, as it were from Henry Clay's grave:''" ; "The foundation of my preference is,' that Mr. Fillmore has administered the executive .government with signal success and ability. He has been tried, and found true, faithful, .honest and conscientious." What better ground of preference does any old Whig ask, than this earnest preference of jHenry.Clay, and the same grounds for prefer .ence which he had? 4,What! with this eulogis "-tic approval by Henry Clay, old Henry Clay 'Whigs vote against Fillmore and for Buchau an the worst enemy that ever cursed the life of our immortal leader? The man who can do this never was a true Whig at heart, and the tvord Whig on his lips now is as the ashes of ypocricy. ?o there is but one plain path of duty for old Whigs and that is to vote for the only Whig who is a candidate .. this year for the Presidency. - . 'Fillmore Eutausiasm at Mt. Vernon. :.. A private letterjrom a friend at Mti Ver'non says: ; "Friend , Sanders Our cause is grpwiog better every day in old Posey, We have just raised a Fillmore pole two hundred and forty feet hirjh, which I think for beauty, and height will eclipse anything of the kind in Hoosierdom.,, We think so, too, and if we hear of a'taller demonstration, we shall tell all about it. WhiTe copying the above, a gentleman from Mt. Vernon ; Came in purposely to tell us of this pole. , He says it is the height above ' mentioned above the ground. The Democratic pole is only 160 feet high. The 1 Fillmore boys have raised a tall and beautiful c pole at Mt Vernon. Ninety-nine out of every " hundred boys are for Fillmore. : c - The above correspondent says: "We expect ),'Ao have a large crowd attend the Fillmore s Barbecue at Henderson on .the 18th, aa ; they are making great preparations. . We have engaged a steamer to take U3 up and back, and hope to meet many of our old friends both r of .Kentucky and the Hoosier , State." What --: preparations äre eur . Evansville Fillmoreites making to attend that Barbecue ? "large crowd is expected from this city, , and there are plenty of folks ready to go. We -' can crowd one steamer pretty well, or we shall be much mistaken.' -: We are glad to hear of so much enthusiasm' among our Mt. Yrrion lt friends.. They want to hear some of our f - speakers down therej and we hope their desires '' in this particular may soon be gratified. AjTall Fillmore Pole. Mr. Kurtz's boys erected evening before last a tremendous Fillmore pole on Locust street, between First and Second streets. At its top wave the names of Fillmore and Donelson, and the stars and stripes. It is the handsomest pole in the city. '..Three hearty cheers for FiUtaore and Donel- " Bon were given when th-3 pole reached the perpendicular.' ' '. '' ;. ' '.' 9 y. u ä j JCfctT" On the outside will be found Kansas -news, with letters from citizens of Leave n"worth who have been ''run off" for simply V avowing themselves in favor of Kansas becom-, ' Mng a free State.- "-Ti.V.-. . -, -"'-;,v '"X t.0O" A large and fine looking Fillmore paper has been started at J acksonville, 111. " It is called the Conservator, and is doing good and jitrong work for the Fillmore cause.

We do not justify Mr. Mosley in thrasaing Hal 1 much as he deserved it, and , much as he has deserved a thousand such thrashings since Evansville has been, troubled with his presence, and disgraced by the vile language he habitually uses in a paper that goes abroad as one representa tive of the city. .We justify no pfrsonal physical violence as 0. vindication of ,mere printed abuse yet in this case, human nature, and the peculiar principle of "violence advocated by. Uall, well excuses the application of" the princiole to himself. He- has merely suffered by a violence of similar nature to that which h has so emphatically approved when : used towards others, and therefore he has no right to com plain. ' We have an opportunity now of retaliating upon Hall the sneers and ridicule and venom, with which he alluded to our difficulty. But we will show him, in- the face of the burning lies, the shameless misrepresentations both of the difficulty and of the cause of the difficulty, and the nasty ridicule he so villainously published to the world about uswe can ; be- a gentleman still, and scorn the use of an advantage over a fallen foe.
