Lane will address the people of Evansville this evening at 7fs o'clock at the Washington House corner. He will doubtless have a large crowd to hear him. Let all parties be present. CiOTHiNa at Wholesale. Messrs. AnspAcher & Co. are now largely engaged in the manufacture of clothing for country t dealers. They have a large number of persons employed, and soil exclusively at wholesale. They are enabled to sell just as low as the Cincinnati jobbers, as country merchants will discover by giving thorn a call. This is a new branch of jobbing business here, and i already becoming important. fjjr We perceive by the Bloomington, 111., papers that Mr. Brooks made a splendid balloon ascension at that place a short time since. He landed fifteen miles from Bloomington, and had a bouncing time of it. We hope he will be cautious, as we cannot always be along to take care of him. fjr The daj's are warm but the nights very cool and pleasant. It may be called agreeable summer weather, although more rain is need ed. CThe Americans of louisville had a tre mendous torch light procession last Saturday night The Louisville Journal says: When the procession started from the court house square there were assembled together fully 20,000 persons. For squares the streets were completely blocked with dense masses of human beings. In the throng in the neighborhood of the speakers' stand there were not less than 2.000 ladies, who were testilyin: their enthusiasm bv waving handkerchiefs and Fillmore and Donelson liajs. (Or The following splendid production is the last Buchanan song. It shows the genius inspiring enthusiasm of their cause: Buck-Segro' Song. Hurrah for Buck! Uh o oh-o", Good old Buck! An a'-ah a'! IXICÄI, DEPARTMENT. POLICE MATTEBS. Hj Lamasco has l ad nearly all the fun to barseif for the last two or three dayf. Her populatio teem to I e awakening from their lethargy; sign of life are becoming visible, aud the Magistrates offlee it becoming quite an interesting scoool for the study of human nature generally, as well as to learn the manners and customs of Lamascovites in particular. The J nstices docket presents quite .1 history of human wrongs committed against human rights, and the wrong ways that were taken to redress them, which brought them under the cognizance of the La:nasco Judiciary. Justice Chute, presi ting. We will make our stories short, so that if they should prove uuinteresling onr readers will not be bored, and if they should cnutain some interest we shall not be so liable to giro offence. Case 1st. Lorenz Comfort smiteth, J. E. Toralinson and the State of Indiana takes cognizance thereof Tomlinson was a member of the police corps, and being duly authorized in writing endeavored to secure the person of Lorenz who had been behaving unseemly, and was a fro ward man. Lorenz resisted and striving with the man of authority did commit unlawful violence on bis person for wheh it was adjudged by the Magistrate that be should pay a flue of $5 and the cost. He paid the flue but not the costs, and was let go out of the hands of the officers. Case 2nd. .Mrs. Coiafortassistelhher husband. See-
ing her :usband strive with the officer and fearing lest jnethouU be worsted, Mrs. Comfort interposed the physical influences pertaining to herindividual self, but was overcome and placed in bonds. When however ' she had paid into the treasury, $1. She was set at lib erty. Case 3d. Peter Krapp getteth himself into a difficulty, showing how begot out of the same. Peter la bor 'or the understandings of the people, aud provides his customers with a very good article of boots aud shoes. But alas! Peter looked upon the wine eopwhen it was red, and at last it stUDg him like au adder. The evil spirit that lurked In that cup, went ;owu his throat took possession of his bosom, kindled there fires of malice, and Peter being then possessed of an evil spirit, did incite his little eon to throw brickbats at his granmother, which was highly uuwrong. Mrs. Wavison, the lady pelted, made complaint belore Justice Chute and Peter Krapp was on investigation, found to be about as much to blame as the old woman, and divers others of the same ramily were about us much to blame as either of them, and all were considerably blamable, and no great shakes neither, in consideration of all of which Peter was amerced in a flue of one cent. Case 4th Shewing how R. A. Riedel chastised bis belter balf, and thereupon what happened. Riedel being a "woman's rights" mn, was determined thai all women over whom he bad control should be right, concleving his wife to be slightly wrong, he undertook to right her by a moderate ministration of conjugal discipline, much to the honor of J no. Way man who interfered and complained on behalf of the woman. Riedel was flued h and having nothing less than a S IUUO bill with him just then it was thought advisable that be should become a guest of the city of fevausville. He is now a sojourner iu the "Safe." Case 3tb. Shewing wbat Mrs. O'Brien did, and then what the Squire did. Jas. 1). Anderson, a constable, stretched forth his band to arrest one who bad offended the law. Mrs. O'Brien couo iving that he was about to deprive a fellow mortal of one of those inalienable rights guaranteed to every man by the Declaration of Independence, made a pass at him, which passed very near to his "dome of thought." And It came to pass, that when he had made an end of arresting the other man, he straightway complained of Mrs. O'Brien, aud in a lime wntte sue was muiciea in uiree uoiiars ana costs. Cues 6th asuTth Jas. Curry and Kirk pat rick are found in bad coin puujr, aud mailers appertaiug thereto. On Sunday last Curry and Kirkpalrick wer lound in very bad company, that is to say, they ware in the com pany of each other and m-re like 'em. Henry Kter like the unlortuiiate magpie, was found in the same predicament. Henry was the possessor of ve dollars and a silk handkerchief, which were to Curry and Klrkpatrlck, as the goodly Babj lonUh gar ment and the wedge of gold were to Achan, an accurs ed thing, and wrought upon their cupidity. Strong drink heightened their fancy for the lhe articles and di minished the vigilance of Eter, in consequence of which the twain became possessors of the valuables, giving tu unfortunate Eter, in return, only a drubbing and restoring bis handkerchief The latter generona At was prompted by a fear that poor Eter would be . f.und suffering the same state of menl agon, that hi. illustrious predecessor N. P. Willis, experienced one '. day when pocket handkerchiefs were in demand, but a scarce article. Curry was lined Ave dollars and Kirkpatrick two dol lars, but neither having funds are now standing com mitted. For prefarring Fmita. Veirt-ablef, fto.
