A Havana correspondent of r the New Orleans Delta, says he has seen a hat mado of horse hair by a young lady of that city. He says it was a most beautiful article - and sold for $170. 07" One of the best toasts read at Mr. Parrot's grove on the 4th, was accidentally omit- ' " ted in the list published on Monday. Health op New Orleans. We perceive by the New Orleans papers that there has been a considerable increase in the number of deaths in that city for the last week; but not a solitary case of yellow fever is reported to have occurred as yet. It looks as if the Crescent Citv would escape the scourge thi3 season. We trust it may. - Indiana Penitentiary. Order has been Z restored in this institution. The convicts are .auhdued, and it is believed there will , be no further signs of rebellion. Some twenty five ; were punished. Heaton, the ringleader of the mutineers, received sixty-five lashes on the bare back with a tfowhide, thirty of which , ; were applied before he began to beg for mercy. Fillmore's Prospects. The return of each day brings, says the Bostou Bee, new evidence

of the increasing prospects of Fillmore. His success is not a matter of doubt, but of -certainty.' He is stronger than he is represent- - el. There, we admit, talk of other candidates; - bit Fillmore will get the votes. The Old Line Whigs and the Biehmond Enqni - rer. The following we clip from the Richmond "Enquirer of Tuesday last. It says "As some persons seem to have" mistaken r "both the motive and object of our appeals to the old line Whigs, it is proper that we should acquit ourselves of the unjust accusation to which such misconception exposes us. We invite no man of Whig principles to join the Denxocratic parly. Such an overture would be - as insulting to him as unjust to our party. A 'person with Whig conceptions cannot consistently v and honestly profess to be of tlie Democratic par- " -fy. The Legislature invited the carpenters to attend its sessions, and received them standing. Bu. James Buchanan was so bitterly opposed to the war that he refuiied to participate in this mark of respect . to these patriotic mechanics, and left the House in disgust ! No comment is necessary on the above. Every mechanic in the country will make his own comment at the polls. 07" John Brough, the staunch old democrat, was called on for a speech, at an old line meeting, at Indianapolis, the other night. He said : " I shall not attempt to make a speech at this time, even a Democratic speech, for the reason that if I should now begin where I left off twelve years ago, my speech might be too much of a free soil speech, or itmignt not be at present an orthodox 1 lemocratic speech." Free Whisky. We are informed by a gen tleman who was in Leavenwortn last weeic, that the pro-slavery, people there keep a suply of free whisky for "the law and order boys" constantly on hand. While our informant was there, the quantity thus gratuitously d spsnsed amounted to a barrel pr day. There is no other way by which the brutal ferocity of these rumans can be kept up to tbe desired pitch than by soaking them with bad whisky. bt. Louis Dem. POST OP ZVANSVILLE.
