Irom Pittsburg to St. Loa s, N. H. O iah ax. from New Orleans Cincinnati. The Cumberland is reported very high at Nashville and still rising. The river was rising at Louisville last Monday, with about 4 feet water in channel of Falls. ' The Emnress made her last triD from r New Orleans to Louisville ia five days and J twenty-onc hours. Tho river was . rising slowly at this point vesterdav. Weather warm and a little ' loudy. The new steamer J. C. Swan toot on board about 400 tons of pork and tobacco at this point, and left yesterday morning with a pretty full load. - Look out for our swift packet Rainbow this afternoon. She will start back to Louisville in the evening. She is prompt and fast and has superior accommodations. The Landis, HS H. Winslow and Crescent, were loading at Cincinnati for New Orleans day before yesterday. The Landis may he expected down to-day or to-morrow. The fast packet Highflyer, with excellent accommodations and clever officers, may be expected here early this morning for St. Louis. The Southerner will be hero to-morrow morning, for the same port. The Tennessee river is reported rising fast . There appears to be a general rise in all the Western waters. The Miami, Kentucky and Green rivers are on a bust. Not much of a rise reported in the Wabash yet. The W. A. Eaves brought down a full freight from Green River evening before last, which she put on the new steamer J. C. Swon. The Eaves was taking on freight yesterday for a return trip. The Uppor Mississippi we have already reported at flood height. It has also been rising heavily at St. Louis, and is higher than it has been any time during the last four years. The great levee at Cairo is reported broken in several places, or sapped away. The Peter Tellon was detained fortyeight hours by tho desertion of her crew. This rascally Conducton the part of her crew has probably lost her several thousand dollars this trip. She lost the carriage of about the 400 tons of freight from this point, taken by the J. C. Swon. The invincible Alvin Adams is due arly this morning from St. Louis for LouisTille. But as she will come down the Mississippi on the big rise, she will doubtless have passed Evansvillo before this notice ' reaches the eye3 of our readers. The Fashion will be here to-night or to-morrow morning for Lcuisville. By the following from Monday's Commercial, it will be seen there is a heavy rise at Cincinnati : The river here commenced swelling Saturday noon, and up to last night had risen full three feet! Weather warm and pleasant. Mr. Miller, one of the clerks of the Crystal Pal ace, reports it rising from Pittsburgh here the bulk of the water being out of the Muskingum and Kanawha, To-morrow we will have at least thirteen feet in the channel to Louisville. . The elegant and swift packet Wm. Garvin will be down this morning destined for Memphis and intermediate points, and we would advise shippers and passengers to hold themselves in readiness. She is commanded i by Capt. S. Sullivan, with our good looking and courteous friend, Green Sheilds, in the office, a sure guarantee that all those who travel on her will be well cared for. We are glad to hear that the Garvin is doing a good buxiness in the trade in which her enterpri sing owners have placed her, and we are as sured that she will remain permanently in the . Louisville and Memphis trade. We bespeak for her that patronage which the boat and of- . ficers so justly merit. 07" Our thanks are duo Mr. Bill Lupton, ' Express Messenger, for a package of Cincin nati and Louisville papers of Monday, brought '; by the train of that evening. 0"The City Council did not meet last Mon day night. EEPOSTED EXPEESSLY FOB THE JOTJENAL Riot at Covington, Ky. Killing of Two Marshals by the Turners ! THE TCIHEKS IILOCKACED. CALL FOR U. 8. TROOPS 1 MORE BLOODSHED EXPECTED!!! Louisville, May 13. Yesterday the German Turners from Cinj cinnati came over to Covington and Newport. ) The occasion was one of annual celebration, united with a presentation of a banner by the German ladies. As the Turners were leaving the ground hair a mile back of Covington, a difficulty ocCurred between two boys, one a Turner and ! the other an American. One of the Turners made a violent assault upon the American boy injuring him severely with a sabre. Information was sent to the Mayor of Coving- . i : i e ii i - r .v.lü"' au" - ...i tu fn If l 1 T . i. i 3 TT 1 i i a urners. marsuaia ouits ana aarvey aiiempted to make the arrest as the Turners were returning. Some words ensued, when a melee commenced. The Turners were all armed with sabres, and muskets loaded with balls. In the melee some twenty shots were fired at the Marshals and those who were helping them in thediscarge of their duty. One Turner put his musket to Butts' back, and coolly fired, the ball striking him in the right shoulder and passing out through his breast. Harvey was cut on the head with sabres and fell to the ground, where he wsts left as dead. The excitement became intense, and the Turners were not allowed to cross the river. They then marched over the bridge to Newport, where they blockaded themselves in the Turner's Hall. A strong guard was kept around it all night and a message sent to Gov. Morehead for a call on the U. S. Soldiers. Fear3 are enter tained of a serious riot thi3 morning, as the Turners are not going to give their hall up. Cannon were got in readiness. The affair will perhaps end in a more serious loss of life. It is reported that some ten or twelve persons were shot, but we cannot learn full particulars as yet, as the excitement is too great. Farther Particulars. j Covington, May 13, P. M. Four Turners have been given up and lodged in jail. They will be tried in the morning. The excitement has somewhat subsided now, as they have laid down their sabres and muskets but still keep the house as they are afraid to venture out. There is some talk of tearing down the jail and lynching those given up. Marshrl Harvey is in a dying condition from a terrible sabre cut on the head, which chipped off a piece of the skull bone, leaving the brain exposed Marshal Butts doing better, but will probably lose his right arm. "Washington, May 13. The Amersca's mails have arrived. The British fleet in the gulf have received no orders to interfere with Walker or his men at all though it is possible the French fleet may do so. Clarendon says the British government decline? to recall the minister and counsuls implicated in the enlistment affair, and it is believed Parliament will sustain the minister; in their defiant position, although oppositiou is already commenced a fierce war upon Palmerston and the Cabinet postponed the question of the recognition of Gen. Walker's Government until the next meeting. The President has assumed several friends that f the next intelligence from Nicaragua shows Walker is sustaining himself, the Government will at once be recognized.
