Circuit Court. This Court commenced its October term yesterday, Judge Niblack on the bench. Morris S. Johnson, Esq., was appointed Prosecutor for the term, Mr. Usher having declined. There was not much business done yesterday. Several old State cases were continued. The following gentlemen were empannelled as Grand jury. : JOHN WOODSON HUGHES, Foreman. Marcus Sherwood, Jesse Nightingale, JOHN SANSOM, WM. S. BRUMFIELD, WK. JERVIS, K. HIGGINBOTHAM, Petes Racine, John Balsdon. . Thad. McTurnan Wm. Warren, Sherman Fairchild. . Bell Hanging, &c Mr. Jas. Spalding is ! now prepared to hang bells in the best style, and do all similar work. Mr. S. is also a gun smith and lock maker, and would be happy to ! receive orders in his line of repairing, &c, &c. See his card Butcher SHOP. Mr. Wm. Payne has open- . , ,, .. x . -,- ed a Butcher Shop at his old stand on First . Ty, street between Vine and Sycamore. His old customers and the public generally, will find fresh and good meats at Payne's at all times. Give him a call, ' . Big Beets. We have received a coupIe of big beets which took the prize at the County . ,. j t r xt vtt , Fair. . They were raised by Dr. Geo. B. Walker. The first is 20 inches in length, 13 1/2 inches in circumference, and weighs 4lbs 9 ounces. The second is 16 1/2 inches long, 17 1/2J inches in circumference, and weighs 6lbs 5 ounces. Very good beets, and hard to beat 03r We quote City Mills Flour yesterday, at $6 50@$6 75. $1 is being paid for wheat. a . -e fjT-Copeland's Exchange Bank buys Note's Loans Money, Discounts Bills on New York .buys and sells Exchange on Eastern and Western Cities, Uncurrent Money, Land Warrants, &c, pays interest on Special Deposits RIVER ITEMS. The Alvin Adams, J. L. Pringle, Blackiiawk, H. Bridges and John Tompkins, were all at -our wharf together early yesterday 'morning taking in or putting out freight . " The steamer Alvin Adams, one of the largest and swiftest boats on the river, was here early yesterday morning, literally black with passengers. She was from Louisville, and has just- entered the Louisville and St Louis trade as a regular packet. We thank our old friend Mr. Archer, for papers. . Capt. Jesse R. Bell is in command, and Mr. Byers clerk. A daily line of packets will soon be formed, and is now making up in the Louisville and St Louis packet trade. During the summer we had only a tri-weekly line. The Alvin Adams will be here .next Friday morning for Louisville. Her regular days here will be Mondays and Fridays. The Blackhawk, the little steamer recently purchased for the Evansville and ,Wabash river trade, was lying here yesterday morning, just from Cincinnati. She has the appearance of a substantial craft She will find plenty of water in the Wabash. ' ' The Harrison Bridges arrived here yesterday , morning from Louisville for Green .river. She took on a large lot of iron, &o., for .that stream. These packets depend almost -entirely on Evansville for their up freights, and might make more money by confining themselves entirely to this trade. ;: . -The J. S. Pringle took on 500 sacks wheat here yesterday morning for Wheeling n Things looked livelier at the wharf yesterday morning than we have known them for weeks. Boats were constantly .coming and going, drays rattling, merchants and clerks dodging about through piles of freight, and the sun . slowly dispelling the log hanging over .everything at an early hour. ; . - m A heavy fog prevailed sight before last 'but it did not seem to delay boats very long. The Jas. Laughlin, when leaving Memphis one evening last week, was blown into the shore below the wharf boat, and sunk a ' coal boat, loaded with about 1500 barrels of 'coal. v The Highflyer will be here early this morning from Louisville for St. Louis. Look "out for her. . ; - , "-The T. C. Twitchell was advertised to leave Louisville last evening for New Orleans, and she may be expected here to-day . The Tishomingo arrived here from Louisville yesterday morning, for Memphis. 'We thank Mr. Levi, of the office, for Sunday's . Louisville Times. It appears a Memphis paper was mistaken in saying the Tishomingo was going to retire from the Memphis and Louisville trade last trip. She is still on. . The Fashion was here yesterday morn ing in good time from St Louis, with & fair crowd of passengers. . We thank Cy. Drew, Jr. .for a package of papers. The St Louis News of Saturday even;ing, says: The river continues stationary. Nine feet ' to Criro. Arrivals quite scarce, and the levee ! rather dull. The Upper Mississippi is still ' rising slowly at Keokuk. The Missouri con tinues to fäll, and is now as low as almost to threaten to run dry "entirely." Floyd gives the Republican ticket about 100 majority. The vote was light, and the loss fell chiefly, as it has done all over the State on our side. - State Jour.

A YER'S PILLS. 'S S FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC. THERE has long enlisted a public demand for an effective purgative pill which could be relied on as sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This has been prepared to meet that demand, and an extensive trial of its virtue has conclusively shown with what success it accomplishes the purpose tunate for the patient hitherto that almost every purgative medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bowels. This !. Many o them produce so much griping pain and re- ! vulsion in the system. as to more than counterbalance the good to be derived from them. These Pills produce no irritation or pain, unless it arises from a previously existing obstruction or derangement in the bowels. Being purely vegetable, no harm can arise from their use in any quantity: but it is better that any medicine should be taken judiciously. -- Minute directions for their use in the several diseases to which .'SUfJit'SIndirection.
