We met with quite "a large number of people yesterday from various parts of the country, to whom we repeated the question: "How is the corn crop, is it out of the way of frost?" . - . With the exception of one answer from the I central part of this State, on information from the crops in the northern counties, th answer was that the parties had never seen so many acres in corn, nor a year wnen tne promise was so good for a large acreable yield, and that the glorious corn ripening weather of the last fortnight had put nearly the whole crop be yond the reach of serious damage by frost un less it falls upon it to-night,' (Sept" 29,) of which there is a little indication, as the weath er has been ' quite cool through the day, and now at y o'clock, is very clear and still, and cold enough td make thick woolen coats comfortable while walking the streets. We expect that there will be a slicrht frost above the Highlands. An intelligent friend from the center of the State thinks that the corn would be injured one fourth by a hard frost to-nisrht in all the central and north part of the State From Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, our information is lull . that . the corn crop -is safe, and by far tho heaviest ever grown in the West. In this vicinity we are assured that unless a killing frost comes unprecedentedly early the crop is safe. upon tne whole, we thmK we are sale in saying the country at large is already assured of one of the most extensive crops of Indian corn ever grown m the United atatcs, N.
