This well known ho'ifse 'at Terra Haute, hat recently been enlarged and otherwise much improved, to accommodate its increasing custom. But one of the .'best improvements lately, is the obtaining of Matt.- De Garmo, formerly of this city, for clerk of the establishment. Mr. DeGarmo take the place of the former well known clerk who recently died. Matt has a wide acquaintance, and whichever house he may be located at, his friends will be with him when they can. We promise anybody from Evansville stopping where Matt is, will have the best the house can afford, and every personal attention. ' Couhcil Proceedings. Owing to tho absence of our assistant, atH the crowd of work upon our hands, we neglected obtaining a copy of last Council meeting proceedings for publication. While woodiDg, the bottom ,of the boat fell out-Mne engines were immediately stopped, but the concussion was such as to xause the tow-line to brealr, by which the bow of the flat' drifted undet the guards and was 'crushed by the larboard wheel. He intent also, perhaps, udvertiae to furnish, gratis, a ticket to the lecture to each purchaser of a book, after allowing me ten cents each for his. tickets, twelve -or fiffeen cents is as much as oughtto.be charged to hear me lecture on the ' Philoso phy of Humbug." His next victim was the wife of William Haskins, with whom he hab been living an adulterous life for some time past.
