At the time we are forced to go to press, 6 o'clock, P. M., Sunday evening, all is quiet; but apprehensions are entertained of difficulty during the night. The militrsy are ported as before, and are ready for instant service. There are isome 503 extra police on duty, many cf them being our bet citizen. - In the meantime the fiht waa raping on the corner. Probably a dozen ehot had been fired by the crowd, and nearly all the persons who fired them had been arrested by the police, though not without a severe and bloody struggle. Marshal Knights, Ctptain Nichols, L'eut. Cutler, efficers Weston, Noyps, Chubb; Mr. 'Allan Finkertun, and many others, were engaged in tl.e thickest ol the fight, and performed prodigies of valor. Mr. Weston was brutally pounded on the head by three Dutchmen at once, who at tacked him in 'front, while two more came op behind and struck him several severe blows on the side of the head. Officer Chubb was also severely pounded about the head. At one time it seemed as if the small police force was on the point of being ovepowered by the crowd of infuriated eavages around them. But American policemen, although they mar be killed at thf ir posts, will never give up. By diutof exertions that aeemed almost incredible, they extricated themselves from their peril, arrested ten or twelve of the ringleadera of the mob. A reinforcement of police were now seen approaching, (for the whole affair was over in a very few mo ments,) and the rest of the crowd dispersed. The Mayor now sent orders to tne Light Guards and the National Guarda to come on the ground, and dispatched a messenger for Col. Swill's artillery. They had determined not only to wreak their vengeance on the mute wheel and levers of the printing prers, but to give the owners thereof a taste of their wrath, also. They dragged Mr. Patterson, one of t ie editors of lhe Luminary, into the street, forced' him to witness the destruction of his property, and then prepared to tar, feather and ride him on a rail. But a guardhn and protecting angel was sent to sive the unresisting man from the mortifying disgrace and defraded punishment ready to be in flicted upon him by the enraged populace. But while he was spared the disgrace of tar and feathers, he was given to underetand thst he could remain no longer in Psrkville. The mob resolved itself into a committee, and resolved that if be or his collesgue, Mr. Park, were found in the county at the end of three weeks, they should follow their press and find a grave in the waves of the Mis souri. Mr. I'ark was absent et the time, and is, perhaps, indebted to that fact for his exemption from the. same humiliation visited on his associate.. We scarcely know how to speak of these proceedings. That the Luminary may not have been sufficiently pro-slavery in itt sen timents, for the latitude and locality of Platte covnty, presided over, by the way, by Gen. Atchison, seems to hare been the head and front of its offending. I Therefore it wae voted a nuisance and summarily disposed of.
