Can't they offer any inducement -to the people ol Evansville, and the hosts of strangers here, to take their boats altogether instead of the straggling crafts nealy all of whiih get more or less passengers! They appear to be satisfied to let Evansville editors puff them the year around without a coppet's reward. We hare been doing that the last fire years and now begin to serionly think there should be a little reciprocation. Our terms are, a card three months, fire dollars; six months, eight dollars a little higher, probably, than are paid in the largei cities where the adrertising is done in a wholesale manner by agents, bat dog cheap considering the editorials. Any packet would find it cconvny to Ihu? advertise. The Daily Journal has a large circulation. We shall keep this notice in a few days to give our iriends of all the packets a chance of seeing it. The fine new Niagara arrived here early Saturday morning well freighted fur New Orleans. She took about 500 bbls pork, 50 hhds tobacco, 20U cask bacon, 50 bbls of eegs and a lot of promiscuous freight, Lewis fclluward were the principle shippers. She had full trip of passengers. The Niagara has no superior in the New Orleans trade. Capt. Spott and Charley Reynolds are thebet of steamboatmen. The fast low pressure Southerner came down Saturday at an early hoör, for St. Louis. She had a fine trip of both freight and passengers. The pjlite Clerk do n't have our thanks lor late papers. The fast new steamer Ben Franklin arrived here Saturday aftenuvn one week out from New Orleans. She put out a large lot of freight here and left tor LouUville about 4 o'clock P. JI. SULDICKS! Judge Lowles tins morning decided to hold Irving and Morrisey to bail in 810,000 each; thai Hyler and Van Pelt might alao be admitted to bail in 820.000 each, but in the case of Turner and Pauene, the motion to bail was deuicd. Do: Palo, April 17. A returned Californian, A!ex. J.Forbes, this morning shot Michael Shaler, a grocer's clerk, on account of the latter's intimacy with his wife during his absence. The shooting occurred in Mr. Gaze's store, Seneca street. Forbes fired five times. One ball only, took effect in the right side. Thaler, although seriously, is not dangerously wounded. Forbes expressed his regret that be did not kill him, and immediately surrendered hmclf to the authorities. He had his examination, and was admitted to bail. New Yobk, April it. Her cargo of pork wad worth about $35 000. We had quite an influx of emigrants this morning, compared with the recent dearth, upwards of 1,700 having arrived from Europe. Pom.
