We have under the new arrangement increased t' e percentage of the carriers, and thus hope for entire faithfulness in the discharge of their dutie-, and therefore less complaint on the part of patrons. It is unneces-ary for ua to again enumerate the reasons wl 'ch compel us to make this ircrease in price of subscription. We need simply say that we have not been making anything on Daily subscription, while we feel disposed to receive some trifl ng profit for our labors. We hope patrons will duly appreciate the recessity which has compelled us to this new arrangement, and respond in a inanlul manner to our wish s. In return, we promise that in a short time we shall make such changes in the appearance of the Daily Journal, as will render it a cheaper paper at tiiteen cents, than it now is at ten cents per week. ortl. uf .Notice. The steamboat Swallow, from Cincinnati, landed four persons here night before last, very sick, dangerously so, with the cholera or something similar. Mr. P. G. O'Riley hired a conveyance, and took these persons, who had no means, to Dr. Bum's private dispensatory, below Pigeon Creek. He also kept several children on his boat during the night, and actually carried a babe down to the Doctor's, to its mother. N jw Pat, with his generous disposition, would think nothiug of all the ir üble he is put to in such cases as these, but they nre invariably accompanied by a heavy expense He makes himselt responsible of course for payii.g the carriage and medical attendance of sue1 people. We hive known him to pay as much as twenty dollars in a case like 'his. Now this is not right. He is not able to pay suclifcxpenses, nor should ihe city p- rmil him to o it. Every dollar he pays out in this in .liner should be refunded him. Had these poor persons who were landed here by the Swallow, be. n compelled to await such action as Would be necessary to take them to he P oor House, or in some other manner be provided lor by the city, they would probably have been dead before morning. Mr. O'Riley has not the heart to witness suffering where he has the means of alleviation and under the warm impulses of his own bi heart, he does that lor which no doubt he i thought a fool for doing but we are 6orry our city is not tij.ed with such fools. We tf.itiK our City Council should make arrangeinent I or providing without delay for the care of persons landed here from boats n a sick condition. Let them, if they can do no better, authorize -Mr. O'Riley, who is on his boat every night, to take charge of such unfortunate beings, provide t em with medical attendance, with the understanding that the money he thus expends shall be promptly refunded. Common humanity should have claims upon us as a community, as well as upon us as individuals and as individuals, we don't think Pat. O'Riley should represent in purse and action the whole town! GO" We understand by a letter from our agent at Vincennes, that the Daily Journal has failed several times lately in reaching patrons there at the usual time. We hope to avoid all such failures hereafter. If any Jo occur, we hope to be at once rotified of the fact. We trust our Vincennes subscribers may properly appreciate the necessity which will impel us next week to raise tbe price of subscription lor the Daily, and continue their patronage with the same liberality as heretoicre. We promise soon to give them a paper which will fully make up the difference in price. Fresh Oysters Messrs. Hiiler fc Cetto, at Appoio Hall, have on hand in ice some of the finest freh oysters we have tasted this season. We helped two eastern gentlemen demolish a can yesterday, and the oysters were pronounced the beet thev had ever sw allowed in the West. They are better flavored, more solid, and in fact a very different oyster Irom what we generally enjoy, of
fall importation. We can commend themj CCT Weather yesterday bright and deto epicures as extra quality, and yet offered lightful. A very heavy fog in the early at the lowest market rates. morning.

We have just published in pamphlet form the Minutes of the Fifth Annual Session of Letter," which we should like very much to publish, but our columns are already crowded. The Church appears to be in a flourishing condition. The Rev. N. V. Steadman, J. A. Dixon and Asa Marsh are the regular Ministers at this place. For the Kransvlllu Journal. Mr. Sakders: We ask Mr. Ingle, who is writing under the name of "A Citizen," to state nothing but what he knows to be the truth. We are willing the whole truth should be exposed, but we do not like to see errors so garbled as to appear as truths. We do not think Mr. I could have been correctly informed, when he states that Conaiit'a Coal Banks and the Manufacturing Company are doing a banking buainess. We reiterate the gentleman's own lauguage: And I will here assert that "The Indiana State Mining and Manufacturing Cornpiny" and MCiMnlfl Coal Banks, ' were organized as banking corporations, and have proceeded to exercise banking privileges in fraud aud violation and open defiance ol both the constitution aud the generul banking law of the Stale. We deny the statement, as far as it relates to banking. Il is very easy to make statements, but it is sometimes difficult to prove them. However we would state that we have a high regard for Mr. I. 's opinion, and we think that he would do no one injustice of his own knowledge, and presume therefore that he has been erroueously informed respecting the action of these companies. The Company has not commenced banking. It is true that they have paid out their notes in connection with their legitimate business, w hich Mr. I. looks upon as banking, though incorrectly viewed by hi in, as we think. Ii is true lint the notes 01 said companies are purchased byt'unaut& Co. at par for other stock notes ol this Mate. We think this privilege is guaranteed to us by the general law under wnicii we act. We have but little Joubt that if Mr. I. was as well acquainted with the lu.wiutac'uring luw as he is with the banking law, he w ould be found with us upon the above subject ol mar ufacturing and the use of promissory notes. E. L. CON A NT. Evaxsville, Nov. 1, 1854. Drt Goods, &c, at Wholesale ard Auction. We call attention to Messrs. (Jowi'y, Terry & Co.'s advertisement of six hundr d packages and lots ot Dry Goods and Clothing at auction. The sale will take place at Louisville on the 14th and 15th o! this month. Creat opportunities will be offered for buyers, and Indiana State Stock money will be received at par for gtods. Recollect that. This firm should be j afronized. They have been taking our State Stock money from the first, and will take it to the end. Attend this sale if you want goods cheap. tCj' Mr. Henry Rabcock is erecting on First street near Mr. Barnes' house, a very neat though queer locking residence. We admire his boldnes in stepping aside from the ordinary straight up and down models before bin. This house, we promise, will prove comfortable in all seasons, convenient in its arrangements, and handsome and has the advantage of one of the most pleasant neighborhoods in Evansville. üj Read ihe Kansas correspondence in to-day's paper. It will be found very interesting. We hope to hear from George soon again. This is the first letter we have ever received or published from Kansas territory, and we value it accordingly. It was written on a shingle, or the paper was supported by a shingle, but it reads none the worse for that.

proper site; it is the most lovely situation for a town 1 tfef saw, and as soon as it is opei for settlement, it will kill the other. Uncle Sam has a very pretty town there already. The Governor has his seat of government at the Fort at p-esent. It is generally supposed that the Fort will be sold as soon as the Indians are removed. There are but three houses at Leavenworth City, ore occupied by a retail liquor merchant, another by a tavern, and the third as the office of the "Kansas Herald." The next town in contemplation above Fort Leavenworth is call-'d Kickapso. I is where the Kickapso v.llage now is, aud is a very pretty place, but has no itfvsntaeai save its landing. All along the river we find the country about the same, the timber along the bottom ia excellent, but farther back ii is all prairie. The prairiej are generally rolling near the river, but farther buck thev are level. Eighteen miles above Weston a town ia laid out called Atchison. The proprietors are men of wealth, but the pi ice is ve-y poorly situated. It is altogether too uneven for town. There is considerable excitement about it now, but I think cold weather will kill it. Six mil s above Atchison is another site for a town, and a much better nnd prettier than either of the others. This place is to be called Doniphan. Il in at the mouth of IudependtMice, a v. ry Mod mill stream. The town is on a lare bend of the river, and ext. lids farther back into the country than any other point on the Missouri river. There is some very food w timber back of it on VVoife river, Independence, and several otlier streams; the roads leading to it are good, and the country around it is already covered wilh pre-emption huts. Tu site for the town is beautiful; it is a gr.idua' slope from the ü uff and an excellent landing. The view both up and down the river is fine, and Ukinn all things into consideration, 1 think it is the prettiest place on the river. The sale ol lots will come otf about the 1st of November. I liked the situation of Doniphan so much, that I took two shares in the city.and am guing to be one of the early settlers ol the place.
