II a . -. i am w t I. . , . I lt,.-T....' , ... f .. .ii. cashier ofsuch concerns: It will have been seen that the manufacturing act under which these organizations were got up, knows no such officer has no place or use tor him, but does know a presi !entsecretary and treasurer. These concerns need only a "cashier." And I here charge that the duties of the "cashier" of these concerns are very simple. They consist merely in putting the name of that officer to the bottom of the bills issued, and handing those bills over to the presiding genius, whose last name appears (in print; uti the top of the issues of one concern, and who is the guiding and ruling spirit ufthem both. I say these cashiers have no other official duty to perform. Are they ern ployed in thej inti ffice of the two concerns! Do they stand behind a counter there or at a des!:, or do the agreeable to customers anywhere! No, certainly not; but one edits I paper, and the other fijures as assistant editor of another paper. These facts ure significant, and suggestive of the idea of an attempt on the pari o these corporations to bribe the press. The attempt, if it was made, has not wholly succeeded. I an informed tint not Ionir ago, an article appeared in a Vincennes pa;, er, laudator) of this .Mining and M. ufacturing Company, and of the success of a certain tuopored fl luring mill belonging to the Co , in Spencer county, Ii diana. The articles ot association conßu i the operations uf thi manufacturing company to the county of Van derburgh, as the law requires, and I obosfte that one 5 bill in my possession, of thiCompany, is payable to N. Ross, (possibly W. Ross,) but I think . R ss, which I Ulu to be either way, an tttOdtpt to connect a certain well known milter in this county (whose character with those who know him, is above all suspicion of such connection.) with the concern, and thereby jive the billadditional credit with the wheat growers about here., But we hear of opperationä of thia Manufacturing Company, in Spencer county, and are told that a banking home is being built for it in Rockport, in the neighborhood ot which town large amounts of its paper art said to be in circulation. I have h-an! names about Rockport, said to be connected with this concern, which hitherto have been very honest names, and would not now, I am coufident.be knowingly associated with dishonorable practices of any description. It is time that they knew the character ol the paper to which i is said they are giving by their good name;, currency and creuit. Let them read this expose, and enquire into its truth. I observe since the grenter pnrt of this article was written, that Mr. Kenyon has in a very short article apoearing in your last issue, replied to my previous communications. I barely refer to that reply, and correct the impression made as to the Notes of the Mining and Manufacturing Company, which I tlnd,so far as I have seen ttiem, to be p iya-
