We-ktv Journal 4 00 4 IM) s no tlTTV tV HVAWSVIltE. I SATURDAY MORNING, ::::::::UCT. 28. lDcrHte of Price. We have be n much pleased with the manner in which our proposal has been received, to raise the price of subscriptions on the Daily Journal. Our patrons feel well assured, that nothing but urgent necessity, or, I k.. - -- ik.i ... . -a tii'iL-lnir nnlhinir 7 . on our subscription list at the present price, v r could ever induce us to raise the price of sub acription even a single cent. That necessi ty snd that fact have been staring us in the face, not only during the present summer since the pr.ee of paper, laDor.ÄC., have so materially raised, but really for years. We were making little or nothing on Daily subacr.pt.ons o-,ore w, r ,u paper, otc, ana . I .1 . L . , l . , . . . . . a. - J . l e .i , had year, ago contemplated mcreasing the price of subscription. Next week, therefore, the new terms will be made known, and we are satisfied, after conversing with many patrons on the subject, a. . m. a .1 i i i i . i . tuai justice anu iioeraiuy enougn exist in this community, to prevent any material reduction in our aubscription lists rum the increase in price of the Daily papers. In making this increase, we are but doing what tbe other Daily papers all over lhe country have already done, and which othera must imitate, or involve themselves, thruugh subacription lits that do not pay expenses. A Voice from I We have heard through Mr. A. B. Wilkinson, from our old friend and subscriber, Mr. SamM Miller, of Dallas county, Iowa. Dallas is one of the frontier counties, on the roed to Council Bluffs. Only one county beyond Dallas is settled at present. Mr. Miller writes that tbe crops n that region ! are excellent this season, and prices good, for that section. Potatoes bring 1 50 per , bushel, snd crop good. Corn 30(.35c, deliverable in the field. Flour is selling at $4 50 per hundred, or about 90 per barrel. From one item in friend Miller's letter, we perceive civilizaliun has reached his point. He says a man in his neighborhood deliberately cut the throat of his wile, and ao badly cut the arm of another woman as to render smputation necessary, snd it is very probab'e she will not survive. The man or monster was arrested and now lies in jail. We hope friend 51 i 1 1 e r will write to us soon. His last letter was accidentally mislaid till too late for use in our columns. He is one of (he old residents of this part of the country, and knows almost every inch of "the Pocket" of Indiana. We like to receive frien-iy letters from folks of this kind, when they take up their homes at distant points, especially when their letters convey so much practical information as Mr. Miller's always tlo. A Great Blunder We learn from the State Journal, VVm. R. Nofsinger, the People's candidate for State Treasurer, is probably beaten by an erroneous printing of his name on the ticket in several portions of the State. Some fourteen thousand votes were given for Wra. F. Nofsinger and Wm. B. Nofsinger, and the votes with the right name on will hardly be enough to overbalance the huge blunder. Some six thousand voles were cast for Hiram A. Taibott, for Auditor, instead of Hiram E. Taibott. This mistake is not yet large enough to defeat him. These blunders are in the highest degree unpardon-' able, and should lead to the utmost vigilance hereafter, in the supervision of ticket print ing for Stale officers. The tickets thus wrongly printed, will of course be thrown out of the court. The obvious intention of the voter, we think should have some weight in the case, when no fraud is apparent in the case. HZj We invite attention to the advertisement ot George Klein & Co. in to-day's; Journal. It will be seen that they have been j extending their business largely in the manufacturing of Soaps, Candles and Lard Oil, and are now prepared to fill all orders for the aboye named articles, in as good qualities and at aa low prices aa the same can be done in any city in the West. Messrs. Decker di Kramer well known Grocers on Main street, are members of the above firm, and a ill give their attention to the business. They have engaged in this business for the purpose of encouraging the manufacture of these staple articles in our own city, and ask the patronage of the surrounding country.su lung as the same articles can be purchased aa cheaply here as elsewhere. We have examined their facilities for manufacturing and have no doubt that they can perform all they promise. Elopement. Joe Patten, of this city, ran offrvilha daughter of Harrison Olds, last Monday morning. Joe left a wife and child. His wife is a lady who deserved a better husband.

Of the security to the ho'dera of free bank bills, afforded by these bonds, everybody can easily judge fur themselves. Luxuries of the Season. The Apollo Hall Restaurant, under the supervision of Messrs Hiller & Cetto, is exhibiting a good deal of enterprise this season. It had the first fresh oysters and the first venison of the season, and continues to be abundantly sup plied with tl ese a-ticles, and everything else of a palatable nature. We thank these gentlemen for an elegant roral of venison, the choice part of a superb animal, and a can of oysters, sent us day before yesterday. If editors don't live well in this neck of woods, it Is because some of thein ain't popular. Opened Out-Peter Burk opened the upper rooms of bis Restaura t evening before last. These rooms are very handsomely carpeted, with elegant chairs, dtc, and illu minated with gas. These are in the second atory. I he Billiard Saloon is above, reter says he has some fine fresh oysters on hand, which he can serve up to customers. 0 Judge Wilson Shook, well known in this community, died at his residence in tbe BaVou below, day before yesterday. We have received Liverpool papers of the 9lb from friend Osborne Re illy, which proves pretty conclusively he was not on the Arctic. Connecticut. A Bill passed the Legis lature of Connecticut at its lsst session, punching with a fine of 5,000 dollars and live years imprisonment in the penitentiary any person who shall falsely and maliciously represent any inhabitant to be a fugitive from labor, with the design of procuring his or her forcible rcmcval. Every such claim shall be prima facia, pret-umed lo be false and maliciou, and this presumption can only be rebutted by testimony equivalen' to that of two credible witnesses testifying to facta directly tending to establish the truth of the claim A Southerner going thus into Connectict to reclaim a fugitive slave would be held guilty of a penitentiary offence until he could prove himself innocent. 03r The Bostoniane have a great time iu endeavoring to annex Charlestown to their village. The opinion of the full bench of the Supreme Court waa delivered at Boston on the 31st inst., declaring that the act of Legislature annexing Charlestown to Boston, which act had been accepted by the voters of both cities, is unconstitutional and void. The anti annexationists of Char'estown celebrated this divisiun with processions, and fireworks. (T The Governor of Indiana has offered a reward of S500 for the detection and arrest of the marauders engaged in causing breaks in the Wabash and Erie canal.

It is true, another name has been heard of in both cases, but with that name as yet I have nothing to do. I have noticed this t morning an editorial in the Evansville Enquirer, which identifies the editor of that paper with the "J. B. Hall" on the bills of Conant's Coal Banks." This editorial affects to treat the whole matter lightly, and refers me to an article which sppeared in that paper on Wednesday last, which article is far from giving the requisite Information, and moreover it does not come from the rieht source. It has not the fame weight as if it came from the proper officer, aud especially since that officer is on his own showing identified as the editor of a public journal, whose very position aa such journalist makes it his duty to give the puHic correct and reliable information on subjects of public interest, and especially ins matter of as much concern as that of the circulating m medium in a lime Kke the preaent. Thus far, Mr. Kenyou has chosen to be silent. I hope this silence will be broken. r. . i , . , i From the position (if I am not mistaken) which Mr. Kenyon occupies, it is due from him that the public should lave all necessary information so far as the paper on which his name appears, ia concerned. I have not done with this subject, and I again in behalf o! our common interests most respectfully request the above named gentlemen, to give in as public a manner as this request is made, a full and true statement of their knowledge of and connection with the concerns above n- med. It is perhaps proper diat I should say, that lam not alone in this matter; that I am but the representative of those interested; snd that there is a oncert of purpose to ask only right and subuit to no wrong.
