DAILY JOURNALTiiet'tntetl of 1844. The appeals now made by the Old htlnker tump-orators to the friends of Heriry Clay for support, leads u to glance at the Presidential contest of 1844. Mr. Clay for Pres. ident, and Mr. Frelinghuysen for Vice-President, were before the people. Mr. Frelinghuysen is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and had long been President of the Board of Foreign Missions. That fact was urged against him, and had its influence with

the Catholic voters, who nearly all voted against him. The infamous slanders and personal ab.se hesped upon Mr. Chy were such as no other , public man ever rece ved. Kendall's Expositor, published at Wash-' r . . , J mgtonC.ty, was the pnnc.pal generator of this abuse, from whence it was distributed, by the newspapers and bar-room politicians of the parly, all over the country. As a sample of this abuse, we give the following extracts, the first from the Expositor, and the latter from the (Sosh'.n Democrat: A DESIGN. To illustrate the character of the Whig Party. At the top of the sheet, put the name "WHIG PARTY." Under this, place the fljure of a doudlc man with a face each way, one side representing Henry Clay, with a pistol in one hand urn) a pack of cards in the other; and the jlher side representing Freiing huysen, with a Bible in this hand. Ulow, but the words We fight with both carnal and spiritual weapons." Under this, divide the sheet in two columns. On the left, put a cut representing Henry Cloy shooting a fellow man in a duel on the right, Freling-huysen parying for sinners.

Below this, Clay at the card table, plavin"i,Ml Thursday, in which we find dates from

a emie of brae; and Frelinghuysen at the Coiiimunioit Table, partaking ol the Sacramen I. Then, Clay in a brothel, kissing the lewd womiMt; and Frelinghoysen amid his pious isiers in a prayer meeting. Clay looking on while his overseer hips a negro man. and Frelinghtiasen walking -arm-in arm with a blark dandy. The whole to be intersperyed with appropriate Hayings Irom the mouths of the two candidates, and oncltided by a orand procefion of VV H Mi Clergyman who support the Ticket, ercjrting the JUGGERNAUT, Henry CI y, in trie Kh ape ot Old Nitk, to the Temple of Civ I Power, while FreÜnghnysen with angela' wings on, besides him on the name car with this motto: UUIt HEAVEN IS POWER, THOUGH THE DEVIL HE I l'S GOD." Polk it to h i tu (Clav), that in morals he is a profligate in politic a knave that he is a gambler and black le; a debauchee a .Sjubath breaker a profane swearer--a 'u--ehst and a slave holder; that he has twice attempted the life ot his fel.ow man that Jie waa the principal agent in the death of Cilly that he wrote the challenge, and that when the moral sense of lha Uui"n wus chocked, and Borrow brooded on S)S ry heart at the renult, he remarked with a "hVnd-like liiijjh such as echoes through the vaults ol Hell, that it was enty a nine days' bu'obh!" folk it to him, that he is an aristocrat, and e slave-holder that the hand of the Slave fans him in kis mid day nlumü-r that the KIBLE has no place upen his plantation that mnre ilmi jO men, women and chtldren aru toiling tor In in day by day in the most profound stupidity ignorant if 'hier own right"; igtwrant of their existence ot a God; to whose ears the news ol -lad tid ni?s was fiever pfeached; and who are themselves corrupted aud degraded by the dissoJute example of their master that the sound ot (he overseer's Itsh daily resounds Irom their backs, and that he, Henry Clay, the whom the Whigs worship, has even sold his own chi dren into servitude. Goshen Dem. These furnished Che Jo. Whight s, the John fettit's, the Fitch's, and the Robinson's of our State, the staple of their stumps speeches. Who does not recollect listening to their infamous denunciations who does not remember the reeking filth and slime tpewed from their putrid throats upon the character of Henry Clay! These are the Jien who now appeal to the friends of Henry Clay, (those who stood by him during the slanders f 1344,) to aid them in their crusade agninst that freedom of -whicR Mr. Clay was ever a noble champion, and against the enactment of laws for the prom ition of order and the morals of the country. Such appeals are insult to the ture friends of Henry Clay, and whenever made, ought to be greeted with the hissing scorn which honest cannot but be aroused within every bosom. Bold Rollert.
