to convey an adequate idea of the spirit which characterizes the whole piece. The authorities aver that before the locaj government was formed, in 1850, Sigaud, thegent of the Atlantic and Pacific Company, applied to the then anlhoritiea of Mosquito (the British protectorate) for permission to land coal at Point Arenas, which was refused.and the coal was landed at Greytown. That after the formation of the local government, in June 1851, the same company and Mr. Martin, at the request of C. Vanderbilt, and Isaac C. Lea, the President and Secretary of the company, obtained written per" mission from the chief magistrate of the
city, then acting consul for the British government, to land coal and lumber upon Point Arenas, a copy of which permission is at tachedtothe statement. And thus the company became posseased of their present location. That in the month of August of the same year, Mr. Vanderbilt and White visited Greytown in the steamer Prometheus, and obtained permission from the said chief magistrate to navigate the river San Juan, which lies within the Mosquito territory. That in November 1851, the steamer Prometheus, Capt. Vanderbilt, and subsequently the same vessel with the steamer Daniel Webster, were compelled to pay port charges
which they bad refused. Thatin the fall of the same year the government notified the company, that Point Arenas would be required for government nse, and that the company refused to relinti. -a - -- k.. mbI i nitorl tn hull! more

We are informed that two gentlemen whose names we have, saw Mr. Sanders, editor of the Journal, come out of the Know
Nothing meeting in Carpenter's building, on pursue in relation to tl'ir monetary affairs.

Monduy night.
Now it is scarcely necessary for us to notice this, as Mr. Denby's situation is becoming so notorious it is merely another phase of his hallucination. No one who knows him, wi'l believe that he ever heard any such thing. Persons who hold any claims to respectability , geneially huve too much regard for truth to make statements which they know to be utterly false, and those who have no such claims, are not to be heeded. Their
opposition is preferable to their putronag?. Mr. Denby's spiritual communications im
part to bim more mysterious information than any that has ever come within our ken. The only wonder is, how one head can hold so in u c i . But the sad consequences are rapidly manifesting themselves. Mr. Sanders has repeatedly denied having any connection 'with the Know Nothings, and the reason why the Enquirer is not satisfied with this, is simply because he, whose oath is always required to give credence to his word, universally expects it of others; or in other words, "the guilty are themselves
the most suspecting!" $J We heard a number of our Posey county friends a day or ago, charging Col. Drew and Mr. Denby with having becon e members of the order of Know Nothings,
Point Arenss in the said month of February. That the company refused to obey the order,
and they were notified that if they did not remove a part of their buildings in ten daysf and the balance in thirty days, they would be removed by force. That the company still refused and threatened the authorities with resistance. The statement then proceeds to recapitulate the difficulties which have since existed between the company and the authorities,
which finally resulted in the bombardment of Sin Juan; making specific charges referring to the receni conduct of the company and its agents. It denies almost wholly the charge upon the inhabitants, of stealing a large amount of propertv from the company, and reduces it to a very insignificant affair.
It then enters into a minute history of the
Murder of Antonio and the protection offered the murderer by Minister Borland; and of the seizure of, and establishment of a garrianil ii nan Point Arenas bv Mr. Borland, and
winds up with an expression of indignation and intimates the intention of the authorities to resign their offices, as it would be entirely useless to attempt to exercise power, so long as they were to be held in defiance by such men as Scott, Smith and Borland. And they are fully satisfied that when all the facts and circumstances shall become known, that Greytown and its authorities will be found to be the injured parties and as I 11 1 . ! . 1 I . i.i ii a . . . i I An. I
sucn will je entuieu to . prumpi auu icai redress. 8igned by the "late Mayor," three of the "late" members of the "late City Council," "late Treasurer" and "Iste Marshal." We will, to-morrow, publish the correspondence recognising the authorities; the "statement as to the $16,000 boat load of the Transit Co.," the "inquest on the body of Antonio Paladino," and statement of the officers sent to arrest Smith.
We stated frankly that we honestly believe
Col. Drew should be acquitted of the charge but that appearances were decidedly against Mr. Denby, and in this opinion we were concurred with by those present, and we believe, by the community generally. The articles of which the columns of the Enquirer are so prolific, are generally and very
sus
picion. J o say tne lessi it iooks very suspicious, for one to be continually crying "stop thief."
The banks who dcterrine to prop up the old standard of currency refuse checks upon those parties who py out Indiana Stock funds, where ipmi Els & Sturges issue the following ad ertisemat, which we beg leave to insert gratis. Enquiries are consintly being made cf u?', by our customers und rthers, of this scrt: "We have a note or at the 'Trust Company,' or at 'Groesbcc. &. Co.V and they won't take a check onvou for it, nor will they receive the money vou pay out in payment. What hall welo?" The answer is plain nd the course to be taken clear. If the noi is a local one, and held or discounted heretendcr the money to the endorser; tell himyou ask no favors; there is the bankable mney ; if it is a foreign paper, let it return, an we will bell you a draft on the point whet it came from, which will go by the same ma.
