Abortion Case. Drath of Women! Revolting Disclosures' We have been furnished with the particulars of one of the most revolting esses, involving the desth ot one person, that tea ever been brought to light in this city , Which we give below. It seems that a wo an named Catharine Martin, who had been passing under the slias of "Miss Swarawout," and not of very good character, and who has been residing for several weeks or months at a house kept by a prostitute named Miss Fonda situated in tue alley between Sixth and Seventh streets, below Albany street, died a few lys ago from the effects of an abortion produced upon her by the latter. This Miss Martin had been having intercourse with colored men, when she found herself enciente. Miss FoiHa undertook to mnke her "ail right" again, commenced a as reported and thereupon series of operations upon her with needles andiron instruments, rind ing that sll these operations upon her victim did not produce the desired result, she gave hr a preparation, in which wss mixed iron filings, which accomplished the object sought 'for but was the cause of the death of the leinol vthi.'h took nlace shortlv after. The body of the woman wis taken to the 'Ida Hill Cemetery and placed in a vault. The cause of the woman's death was inquired by several persons, but those attending the funeral and knowing the facts in the case, gave no satisfactory answer to these in- ' quiries, and they also acted rather suspiciously and queerly. Dr. Bontecou, on hearing of it, at once 'summoned a jury to hold an inquest. A postmortem examination of the body was made, when a most horrible spectacle was presented on the person of this Miss Martin. The 'situation and sppearance of the body proved that the reports circulated about an abortion having been produced were well founded. Severn! witnesses have been examined, among them one who has testified that this Miss M. ssid Miss F. had a hand in her death explaining how and in what manner she had been treated by her in fact, eiviiiB the witness all the particulars as her dying dec I - laration. We learn that other witnesse haves also been examined, criminating this Miss Fonda, and perhaps some others. The inquest is still open, and there are seversl more witnesses to be examined. After the woman was delivered of the child, it was thrown into it is supposed that it is buried not far from the premises. This Miss Martin was about twenty. five or twenty-seven years of age. At the post-mortem examination, which was made by Dr. Bontecou and Dr. Bnrton a portion of the iron filings vert found in the stomach of the deceased. Those mm in a ted in the death of the deceased will be immediately arrested snd put in a way to receive merited justice. Trey Budget, 8lh. A 8am Patch Lcaf.
