Mailame Adolphe has created considerable astonishment will some of our jooJ folks, by her reiiuu kahle rt'lations of the past, an I predictions of the lature. She his beet? flstosl at the Sherwood House by a nurnber of lad.es, and we hear of other parties making up. There seems to be quite a demand here for refrigerators lately. So much wet weather nas made cellars damp, and in many cases utterly useless for the preservation of milk, bolter, die. Who l.nt refrigerators in Evansville? If anybody, let him advertise them irt the Journal, ami we will take one ol tke articles ftr "printer's fees." See new advert ivineiits. Farrell's ATabian Liniment is amm g them. We publish it by contract, without assuming the responsibility that those who buy tickets will draw the first .prize. The corporation notices, See., are especially worthy the attention of those interested. Our new advertisement columns are always interesting. Yesterday afternoon, between 12 and 1 o'clock, a fire broke out on (tie doinlieaot corner of the extensive block of brick bii'dirfit! belonging t0 William T- Merrirield. The buildings were fuir stories in height, and it plac d in a continuous line wuuld measure 600 feet in lei th. The flimes soon extended to a long row of shetis and wooden shops in the Court between the west and east wings uf the building, thence their progress was uninterrupted until the wh-ile of the main building was on fire. In l lew minutes the large three-story wooden building occupied by Thayer, Houghconsumed. We learn, in addition to the above, that the seat of the conti gration embraced the whole track covered with large machine shops and other buildings bordering on the Ronton und Worcester railroad on the right in entering that city, and extending from the canal, where the railroad crosses it by a covered bridge to the stables in the rear of the American Mouse, which are saved.
