The river it falling rapidly, and many of the larger class of boats hare laid up, after about eight months' successful navigation. Considerable freight arrived here on , Sunday by several New Orleans boats. 'pne Madison delivered about 250 tons of Railroad iron, and discharged it without difficulty. Rome of the vagabonds of the Eastport were loitering about the wharf, and trie i to ex cite a mutiny among the Madison's crew. bat they failed, and by making a fast leave from the wharf, escaped a Hogging. The Joe Rowley arrived yesterdsy from Point Commerce, and reports the Canal in good condition most of tlio wsy . There was a scarcity of water on some of the le els but a full supply was in waiting to be let on at the order of the Superintendent. We forgot to mention in our notice of the Eclipse, on her last up trip, that she left at oar wharf, lb33 bags aalt, 10 cratea w re, SO bbla molasses, 5 bbls oil, and 65 kega merchandise. . The big Eclipse has laid up owing to low wa'er and scarcity of freights. She has had a very successful season. Her last trip io passengers and way buainess was very large. The Antelope arrived here from New Orlesna last Sunday morning bringing up dates of the evening of the 21th. We t. ink Mr. J. L. Beeler, firat clerk, for a large package of papers. The Crystal Palaee was detained by Tog some hours, and did not arrive here from Louisville till a late hnor Sunday morning. As there were no fresh papers in town to read, and the mail on the Palace, a great many persons would have been compelled to trespaaa so far on ttieir usual habita as to at tend church, for the simple want of something to do, but the arrival uf the Palace white lac church bells were ringing, prevented them astonishing themselves in this manner. The fart little packet Hoosier State was again at our wharf yesteiday morning, in the packet line, after a prolonged absence. She has changed owners and got polished up. We hope she will remain in the line during the summer, aa ahe ia one of the best low water boats on the river. She brought down the mail. Capt. E. Montgomery is in command. The Fashion was here from St. Louis Sunday night. We thank Capt. Shultz for a large package of papers. The Fashion will be down day after to-morrow. We received a present last Saturday from Mr. Jas. Cochran, of some of the finest eider we ever drank. We are a very reasonable temperance man until it comes to good eider then look out. Jim baa thia cider for sale by the glass or gallon, just according to the dryness of his customers, at the Railroad Hotel, near the market. We thank him for hia attention. The Ambassador arrived here yesterdsy morning from St. Louis, with a barge in tow, and very heavily laden, bound for Pittsburgh. Her freight consisted principally of grain, iron and lead, from the upper Missisaippi. At St. Louis she lost her second clerk, Mr. G. R. Oliver, aged 19 years, of cholera, after only ten hours aickness. There were two or thfee cases of sickness on deck when . i . . . i . it , ins ooat waa aero. vapi. wgowin naa these passengers removed op J ft the cabin, and every care and attention waa shown them by botb officers and passengers. Capt. M. with great liberality, offered to put them on shore, provide them with medical attendance, and pay all their expenses, if they wished to atop, but they preferred staying on hoard aa they were treated so well. Capt. M i a gentleman and a liberal man. CEED -Hy Caaal tiit aay-41 taitt Bar; l-:xisCr.; 1 hag Ost I aw oli SfO ft Ht tal ia '.oat k FOSTER si 00
