The weather was dry and hot day be. fore yeaterdr.y, and dust becoming disagreeable, but yesterday we had a long; rain, and tnud prevailed. Some fine turtle soup will be served tip this rooming at 10 o'clock at Carter's restaurat on Water street. Jim says the turtles are extra fellows in size and quality, and the roup will be superior. Mr. Jaquess is erecting one of the Irrgest and most elegant mansions in the city, vn First street, several squares above Main street. It is delightfully located, and In one of the best neighborhoods in Evanville. It will be an ornament to the city, and we congratulate friend Jaquess on his enter prise and capital. The old Kentucky No. 2 actually passed Evansville yesterday without stopping. She run close along to tit wharfbonts, and threw out a shingle, then pased on as if the Eclipse were after her. Considering she was built here, and is "mighty poor shakes' of a boat anyhow, her conduct was rather insulting to tbi commonwealth. Probably she thought we hid an attichmetit to- her as ehe was built h?re. The Louisville Journal says we lenrn learn that the steimer Jas. Parks, from St. Louis buun J to lighters in the Pittebnfgh, sunk one of her canal Ina, evening. I has 2700 bushels of corn in it. In the present stage of the river this will prever t boats go ing through the canal until the obstruction caused thereby is removed. The Green River packet Wm. A. Eaves wss here yesterday afternoon from Louisville, and after taking in more freight, proceeded up Green River. , The Courier reports the Souih America as being hard nground on the reef just below the mouth of the canal. The Jacob Strader has been laid up on account of low water, and the Cincinnati has taken her place. The Lady Pike was here from Louisville early yestcrd iy morning, with the msils. The Lady still keeps up her old reputation for punctuality. Steamboats were scarce yesterday at our wharf a kind of day's lull iil the general business.
