The Enquirer then boldly steps in to the rescue of Smith Miller, and tells the Rev. J. McMasters and his co-petitioners that their hostility to the Nebraska bill ia founded in ignorance. "Indeed, (says our neighbor,) it requires a remarkable degree of ignorance to enable one to oppose the Nebraska bill on consciencious grounds." Tbe moment the people attempt to speak and protest against the perfidy of demagogues, they are told that they are all fools, and they "display a remarkable degree of ignorance when ever their consciences prompt them to speak." Hear our neighbor again address himself to the Rev. of Gibson: We believe the Reverend Ma. McMasteks, is a Democrat and ."for the sake of auld lang syne" we desire to brush away one or two of the cob web which have enveloped his brain. We regret that any layman or divine who has Democratic tendencies shnuli oppose the Nebraska Bill, and, as ignorance appears to be at the bottom of all 6uch opposition, we cheerfully volunteer to explain all knotty points. As the Enquirer arrogates to itself the position of tutor, to the Rev. Mr. M -Masters and the citizens of Gibson, we will invite their attention to ita instruction, most alten-1 tivelv, assuring them at the same time that ; if they have the least doubt about the Nebraska Bill being the most cdntemrtible humbug of the age, this impudent and pomp ous teacher will remove them at a breath.
