Indeed we think it a capital idea in our neighbor to make aliuost any arrange ment by which he can have the opportunity of attending church, if this opportunity under the present condition of things has not u u , ,t ha. been us most free-; been granted him as ly, and the hands in our office if :hey may , ha v. !'!? an riisnnaerl. He evidently stands w v . ,- - 4 I in need of the bles.ed influences of the ; I church about as much as any Locofoco editor utu . U I1UI I wun wntm we are acjuaimea, ana wm snou.u i r m t II be the last one to throw obstacles in his way. Indeed, we offer him the free use of our pew and prayer book., if that will be any encouragement. But he urges as an argument for issuing a Sunday paper, that it will relieve hia hands of tho necessity of working on Sundays, and to avoid a desecration of the j I Sabbath. In other words, he will avoid the ; . .. .. uesecration 01 tue öauuaui in one manner, by desecrating it in another. Now we regret very much that there should be any ueceesi-1 ty for desecrating the Sabbath at all, in Kvansville, by newspaper work. What had maue me necessity 01 late days wun us, is : . a j 1 .. a ! amip.y tlic tact, unless we had work done 10 - 1 1. . , ,.!. :.. V.r.. our office cn that day, another paper in this ! city would give this community news ahead of! " us something we never have permitted, nor shall we ever aLow. Now it is very easy for this necessity to be dispensed with, and wilh that view, we make the following proposition to the publisher of the Enquirer: We hereby agree to permit no work in the Journal office on Sunday, but to close our forms and have Monday morning's paper worked off Saturday night, before 12 o'clock, and not allow carriers of the Journal nor newsboys, to distribute or sell Journals on the Sabbath day provided the Enquirer office adopt similar regulationa. If our neighbor will not agree to this total suspension of work on the Sabbath, it will of course be evident that he has other and more wordly objects in view for the issue of a Sunday paper, than simply to avoid the desecration of the Sabbath. fj7" The Enquirer denies endorsing the National Democrat. Probably it does rot at this time, but we ask it if it did net do .0 some weeks or probably months ago, and when the Democrat was opposing t! is administration in the course of the New York difficulties, just as strenuously as it is doing now! If it do deny it, we shall endeavor to bring forward "the documents." The Democrat occupies the position of a good many other Democratic papers. It regards the present administration as one of the most imbecile ever placed at the head of government, and as being utterly unworthy the confidence of its own party. As to the principles of the Whig party alluded to in the same paragraph, we hope to be able to gratify our neighbor most fully as we proceed, that the Whig party has enough and good enough principles to preserve its organization, and to secure it a great triumph in 1856. At present, we hope to have sufficient to occupy our attention for some little time to come, at least till Congress closes, in keeping before the people the acts of commission and omission of the present administration and probably our neighbor will have quite enough to do in defending what the Democrat calls, the abominations of the Pierce administration. We are not altogether done with the Nebraska bill yet, although the Enquirer may have hoped so. Mr. HelPs Sale. Mr. Crawford Bell's great sale of Real . I you to summon to your assistance, you will sanction the declaration that a proposition to carry this principle into effect, i. a great moral wrun?, opposing us to the righteous judgement of the Almighty. The letter is argucmentive rather that denunciatory. And milder than miht be expected from that source, but still tart and sarcastic. Now we vtsh our readers to observe one rema'k as reported of Mr. Douglas "Tha1 the transfer of slaves from Kentucky to Nebraska would be for the benfit of slaves and not alter the political complexion but simply reducing in one State where lauds are exhausted, and increasing in others where it is rich." The fri -Mids of the bill have been cndcavoring to wipe away one strong objection to it, by ridiculing the idea that even if the! bill should pass, slavery would not go into the ' Nebraska and Kansas territories. Many of these advocates of the measure have even de. dared themselves opposed to the extension of slavery in any form and this bill wculd not extend it. The editor of the Evansville Enquirer has declared himself opposed to the further extension of slavery, and yet has warmly advocated this bill. Now look at his position. Either he is wrong in judging of the effect of this bill if it become a law, or the author of it has no idea of what his own measure is intended to accomplish. Douglas atsurnes the ground, that it is to be or intended lo be a slave territory, or else why should he argue that the transfer of .laves from Kentucky to Nebraska would be for the ben etit of shves and not alter the politicaj complexion but simply reducing the number in one State where lands aro exhausted, and increasing in others where it is rich? Now if this report of Mr. Douglas letter be correct, we call upon our neighbor either lo foreswesr his own opinions in opposition to the extension of slavery, or else oppose this iniquitous Nebraska measure. He has had evidence enough, we presume, to convince him that be is laboring in opposition to the feelins of th s whole community, with but few exceptions, in upholding the Nebraska measure. It now appears, wh t we have before suspected, he is laboring against hi. own feelings, at least in one prominent particular. Under these circumstances, if our neighbor were a reasonable man, or in other words, if he wero not a Locofoco editor, we might have ground for hope, that seeing the error of his
