such important service in behalf of an op pressed sister nation. Although England is the first to employ steam in her naval service, the credit of conceiving and adapting steam Teasels to practical use in time of war, is due the United States Government, it will be recollected that our Government lent its aid to the establishment of the Collins Line of Steamers, by way of affording adequate mail facilities, with the condition that they should be so constructed and adapted as to admit of being readily converted to naval service in time of war. Before the sailing of the fl 'et the Queen and Prince Albert reviewed the whole division in a steam Yacht, and summoned the commanders on board the Yacht and tendered them her Royal congratulations. A second division is rapidly forming, and will soon proceed under the command of Admiral Chads, to join Napier in the North Sea. The total British force dispatched to the Baltic will then consist of 44 ships, mounting 2,200 guns, propelled by a steam power of 16,000 and mounted by upward of 25,000 men. The force already detailed by England is decidedly a formidable one, and England having now engaged in the conflict, with France at her right hand, the war will be no doubt brought to a cricis. The l.aat Xigllt. This evening the last appearence of Uncle Tom's Cabin will take place in Evanaville, by Shires' troupe. This afternoon an extra performance will be given, and the price of tickets reduced to 25 cents for adults, and children only 15 cents. Apollo Hall should be crowded. Those who have not yet attended this performance, had better avail themselves of the last opportunity. It is well worthy going to see. The company appears to have given very good satisfaction. Topy-Turvjr. " Topsy " is the general favorite at Apollo Hall, in the Drama of Uncle Tom's Cabin. With all her exceeding blackness, and even with that monstrous disfigurement of wool, Topsy 's native beauty shines out I. ike a rich jewel in an Kthiop's ear." There is no subduing that. Even her little hand is her oxen, not Topsy's. But with what an irresistable abandon she enters into the play! How the seems to low it! How well she portrays the ignorant, abused, reckless little nigger, that never wax born, but just growed ! And what a sweet voice has she ! Her acting is good and her songs admirable. Topsy alone is worth going to see and hear. This evening will be her last appearance. Artlatn' I'nion. We received yesterday from J. W. Fillmore, three for Mr. Kennedy, and three for Capt. Miller, who had so kindly laid at the warf for several hours, with his palace steamer, in order that the citizens might be enabled to exchange civilities with his dis'incuished passengers. m The failure of the bill in the U. S. House of Representatives to grant land to Wisconsin for aiding in the building of railN ads has created considerable excitemen 1 in Congress and some exasperation between the Eastern and Western members. We do not know that this result should be much deprecated by the West. Until our Western Representatives can be brought to act together in defence of the equal rights of their own section and to vote against the graining of favors to other portions of the Union whilst their own is shamefully neglected, the West will look in vain for justice. Dry Goons is Lamasco. We invite the attention of our readara to the advertisement of Messrs. Dohne, Habing & Co., of Laims, co. They have juit received from New York a large assortment of dry goods, including everything the wants of their customers may demand in this line. Hsving purchased these goods on very favorable terms, they promise to sell them at least as cheap as the same quality of goods can be purchased in this city. Their old and new customers will find at their store a large stock of tbe best goods, and prices very low. Give them a call.
