A more hopeful feeling prevaila. and a more active pirit is manifest in its business. Yet after all, no great good can come to it, until some change of feeling is adopted by those who hold its destiny in their hand. They must either go to work an'l improve their property themselves, or sell at reasonable rates to others who will improve, a a . . - and not only this, but they must induce and I encourage ntr men to come among them . i Let them do these thiugs and a great and happy change will soon follow. I need hardly auy that he has lost none of his genial qualities, nor bis ancient fame as the best of hosts. I most cordially commend his house to my Evansville friends who may visit the Prairie City. In an interview with Mr. Griswold I learned the most encouraging facts, as to the progress of the rail road from Vincennes to Teere Hau'e. Fully one half the work preparatory to laying down the iron, is finished. and were the iron at hard, the cars wou'd , doubtless be running by next July. And even as things stand the iron yet to be pur chased, and that too in the face of a depressed stocit market we may, from the known energy of Mr. Griswold and the appliances w(ich he can brjff tQ beaf( rea, onii)ly hope to see this work accomplished before the close of another year. Of this there is hardly a doubt, and it is a fact which should stimulate us to every exertion, and if reed be to some sacrifice, to press our end of the line to early completion. That we will do this, no man who knows Evansville enterprise and liberality, can for a moment doubt. Evansville never did falter in its public duty, -nd it never will, Owing to indisposition, I saw but little at Indianapolis. I, however, met Mr. Smith, the President, and Mr. Green, the Secretary, f our Straight Line, b t!i of whom gave me encourajring items as t the pro-pacts of the road. The people at this point have done nothing effective to aid the work, and probably will not. Jn fact, if one may iudrrp In coining to this city, I took the Law renceburg road, which is finished only to that point. It1 appears that a short time since a young lady from Toronto, rich in every grace which can sdorn a city belle, visited the village of Paris, B. Miss Toronto's favorite amusement was riding on horseback, where, like I'epgy " in her low-hacked car," she slaught red hearts hy the dozen. We are not sure ti at he aat on her palfrey with that n.ijcsMc gracefullness, or managed him with that unrivalled skill so beautifully portrayed by Grace Greenwood in her vivd descriptions of southern femile equestrians, but, certain it is. that one day last week, while enjoying a ride not, we presume, accompanied a village belle gave expression to her feelings resnecting the fair equestrian in tunes loud enough to reach the lady's ear. It is needless lo say that, like a true woman, she nursed her wrath and kept it wenn until the following morning, when the baneful spirit of founded pride prompted her to commit an act, which, for the dignity of the sex. we hcDe she sincerelv reorets before a magistrate and entered a complaint against the former lor assault and battery; the result of which was that Miss Toronto wa8 fined 3 and costs.
