A great many merchants have signed it, and the petition binds merchants not to hip freight on any boats that in any way directly or indirectly employ runners. D-JT The Louisville Courier soys the rise the river has produced great activity among the steamboalmen. Crews were in demand deck hands scarce, but officers plenty. We advise some of the officers thore to try the lower deck awhile. We know some who
might make excellent deck hands, but don't seem to be fit for anything else. ICrThe Gen. Pike has laid up a couple weeks to refit and repaint. CCTThe medium sized boats laying up about Louisville and Cincinnati are preparing for work by drumming up crews, tVc. LjrFreiohtS South are reported easier.
