Our friend of the Enquirer makes very merry over an imaginary dissolution of the Whig party, simply because it lately sustained a bad defeat. Well, we suppose it is but fair in Democratic editors now-a-days to exult over a defeated enemy, when the same enemy has triumphed on several occasions most heartily over Democracy or Locofocoism. We recollect very well that in 1840 there appeared just about as small a faction calling themselves Democrats as there is in '53 small a band of patriots calling themselves Whigs. If ever there were a badly, miserably beaten and used up party, it was Locofocoism in 1840. Yet, four years roll around, and the great Whig champion, the immortal patriot, the known and admired of the whole civilized world Henry Clay is defeated by a man utterly unknown in the history of his country, or in his own party outside of the State claiming him as her own. Four years more pass away, and again the Whig party is triumphant, and ago in Locofo- . . . .... ... , coism sprawls on the earth, defeated and dis- ( , . r, , . . j ,, . consolate. The two Democratic editors at Paducah are still maintaining a bitter and exceedingly disgusting personal warfare with each other. They are pretty specimens of Democratic harmony, indeed- but no worse than Democratic organs in many other quarters. In New York they are reading each other out of the party by the wholesale. The editors are quarreling over the spoils like dogs over bones, yet its all in the harmonious party. The Wings laugh to see the fun. But here is an illustration of the Paducah fight. We clip it from the Pennant, and scarcely hope to secure the pardon of our readers for its republication: Our belliqerent neighbor calls us"an old coward," and threatens to "kick us physically out from his path." When he tries that game he will know know much truth there is in his charge; though we are free to admit that we always endeavor to to keep out of the path of a skunk.
