The New York Express and Tribune, give come funny accounta of the effects of Gen. Pierce's eppointments in that Slate, upon the Old Hunker portion of the party. Theshort cut wlich he pives thrm all, is peculiarly hurr.iiia t'rr: and lor a time excited their indignation und disgust; but they have learned to put us with it in the most quiet, uncomplaining manner possible. The Old Hunkers, Barnburners, and Abo'itioniats, all seem ; ed to vie w ith each other last fall, to see; which could give Gen. Pierce the moatefficieut and cordiul support. They, like the "ret cf mankind,'' had to go it blind; they shut th.'ir pipi ant aniH hp is the nominee of our .. l; cmventiou" and we must eupert him. Tbey did support him, and must now be m uch better pleased nh their own loyany to their party, and to party usage, than with th. result 01 their combined efforts. Ned CroswelJ, the former edit r of the Albany Arus. anJ the champion ot Democracy lu New York lor moro than a qourter of century, was at Washington on pr rate business, when r appears that he was told by the PresiJent, that if he had any triend he would like to have rewarded, he had only to Dame them, and bis requests should be cheerfully granted. He therefore named a Mr. Johnson, tor po-tmaster at Albany; and reccived . voluntary pie ige from the President to hi. speedy appointment Gen. The appointment was regarded by these f entlemen ss .ecured for Mr. Johnson; no otber name was pres. nted and the who e , . ... j d . question was cona.Cered aa settled. But to tii e utltr astonishment of Mr. Johnson's friends aud the public generally, the commission was sent 'o a man who had made no pretensions to that or any other office, and but a hört time previous was a ranting abolitionist; he mouittd in 1850 snd became . Barnburner. At the time of his appointment he was considered one of tbe Mrcy kidney, of the genus "Softshell." Such is the character of the selections made all ever the State, disregarding in toto the expressed wishes of the people, though pledged publicly and privately to gratify thrm. It was at first all hid to Secretary Marcy, at.d they hi aped their denunciations : upon bim mercilessly, but they soon ascertained fr m the President's own conduct that he was only following the bent of his own Abolition proclivities. They now arknow. ledge tberr.selvcs cheated, and succumb as graciously as roseible. They are disarmed ot all weapons ot complaini and censure, except upon themselves for "going it blind" and catchiug. tartar.
