More than this, he has promised a large addition. While we thank him kindly fur hi attention, we may be pesr m tted to say , that other friends might well imitate his example in different places. A little ererry hnd industry would much extend the circulation of the Journnl in this region. We csn do nothing or but little without the aid of our friends. With them, we can accomplish wonders. The Weekly Journal, even without the aid of improvements we intend having made by next tall, is a valuable paper to every farmer and business man. It. is not a Q ashy "dollar Weekly," containing nothing but stale miscellany and news long since forgotten, packed up in a hrge shei t a. ares for any gullible market, but everything about it is tresh, and with the stamp of originality on its columns. If any patron don't get the worth of his money in the Weekly Journal, he had better withdraw. Agents like Mr. Gorman could in a very brief time double the list of the Journal, and enable us to double our effb" is in every way increase its value. fjC7"Mr. Stein vas sick last Sunday and

By reference to the long advertisement in to-day's paper it will be seen that Barnum'a great menag rie will be here next Monday week. We have no means of judging of the merits of this ex hibition, except by their "Bill of Fare,'' which certainly promises an enfertainment tht will draw as great a crowd as did Raymond's and Van Amburgh's menagerie. We expect to see the country in on that day. Tnere is magic in Barnum's name, and it nerer fails to draw the people. Gen. Tom Thumb is with this exhibition. At this time Mr. Young was taken down severely ill, and in return for his attention to the stranger, asked that he (the stranger,) would nurse him until he grew better. The stranger consented. The following evening Young was found in his bed most horribly mutilated, unable to see, snd seemingly without a pint of blood in him. The stranger had fallen upon him with a bludgeon beat him until he thought life extinct, and then made his escape. Several of Young' s friends pursued the stranger but were unable to find him. Treme.idocs Excitemest Th People I2i Arms Reported Bloodshed ! About half past two o'clock yesterday morning two men reached Cairo in a skiff", and announced that an American camp on Cache river six miles from Cairo, had been attacked by several hundred Irish, and two Americans killed. The rews spread like wild fire, and by sunrise the whole country was in the highest state of excitement. Messengers were dispatched from Cairo into Kentucky to solicit the aid of arms and men, while in Cairo the old and young took knives and guns, and stood panting for the command fa march. In Kentucky the sober christian farmer actually forsook his plow and hoe, and buckling on his powder horn, took down his rifle, and hurried to the mouth of Cache where the troops were to meet. At ten o'clock one hun dred and forty men armed with rifles, ahotuns, swords, scythes, knives and slung shot, had assembled at Cache river ready to pros ceed to the field of blood. While there the woods fairly shook with th loua huzzas ! of approaching reinforcements, and while a about, in answer, was ringing, eighty men, collected from the surrounding hills, came in view and soon joined them. There was a sight then that made me, at last feel that every drop of blood within me was American. Two hundred and twen'y men, collected for the avowed purpose of punishing the foreign horde that Cared to shed American blood on American soil ! Every man felt himself a mighty host blood-thirsty determined un conquerable. Will lhe reader believe it? I question it much, but if they will take the evidence of al1 the people of this region of country they will believe that this great excitement was occasioned by two mischievous boys entering an unoccupied hut in the vicinity of the aforesaid American camp, striking the wall8 with clubs and crying murder ! Such I assure you is the unvarnished fact. The camp had been threatened by the Iriah, and while the few Americans there were waiting almost in expectation of an attack, thf cry of murder, horrible at any time but most horrible in the hour of mio-niglit, fell upon their ears. Thinking they could rentier th ir dying companions no assistance they fled into the woods and wading through swamps, and thickets the balance of the n ght, by daylight they had the country aroused to the pitch I have imperfectly described in the onset. The troops separated at the mouth of Cache, somewhat chagrined at their disappointment as perhaps every one, had made up his mind to prove himself a hero in the engagemen t which then öeemedinjjvitablc. 03r I might give you some laughable incidents connected with our recent excitement, but a prudent care for my carcase will probably prevent. I will aay however that one little wife blinded herself with tain u her bus' band left her to go to war!
