their constant and generous aid, the Journal : enters upon its sixth year healthful and prosperous.. The increased patronage extended to the Journal during the past year, both in "respect to its circulation and to its advertising eclumns, inspires us not only with a lively hope of our full measure .of success in the future, but with a deep sense of gratitude to that portion of a generous community, to 'whom we are so largely indebted for a liberal and cordial support. be rapid growth of cu'eity, with a corresponding -increase of trade and commerce, and, in fact, an extension of business in every department, already demands a larger advertising medium than the Journal's present capacity affords In order to, -meet that demand and keep pace with the unrivaled growth, of our city and the spirit of the age, the Journal will be speedily enlarged. It is no disparagement to any other paper to say of the Journal, that it offers to advertisers an incomparably better avenue for addressing the public- than any other paper in this section of the state, while . its many readers will find it true to its motto: A Chronicler of the Times, the People and tho Country." - " -'.The Daily Journal is intended more especially for a circulation in this city. " Lola Slontez and her HXald. The New Orleans True Delia of Wednesday says that on the previous day . Lola Montez had a quarrel with her maid, who demand" ed payment for her work and dismissal from service, and urged the demand with so rauch democratic daring, that the i Countess grew furious, and forgetting her. aristocratic distinctions of rank, Vpitched into her,".yulgarly so speaking, and gave her what a comical Irishman, said to have "been named Paddy, oocegave the drum. The maid then proceeded to the Recorder's office and obtained a warrant for Lola 3Iontez'a arrest which two officers of the city police attempted consequently to execute at
her residence. . ) : . ; i . ; The danaeuse", however, refused to submit to the law, and threw herself on her dignity, an 1 declared that she was a countess. The officer declared that countesses did not pass current in' this country. Then drawing a dagger the fa r Lola declared that she would defend her own liberty anxi honor. ,' Matters had now arrived a a pretty pass. The flashing eye of the beroiuJ of Bavaria was as fearful and brilliant aslhe bright blade she hald in her dexterous band, and the two officers quailed before her. At length, when one of them engaged the attention of the heroine in front, and with a bravery which did honor to his Moslem badge parncd her passes, the other, by a counter movement, made an attack from the rear and seized tbe countess by the arms. Now came the tug of war; LTlie Countess lost her dirk but her teeth were left, and she used them on the hands and persons of her opponents with an energy that proved their soundness. While this storm was going on within, the friends of the Countess gathered around her

Heavy RoBCEEY.tr Gold Dcst. The police authorities of New York have been furnished with information respecting a heavy robbery of gold dut on board the steamship Union, which reached that port on Wednesday night. Upon opening the wooden boxes, they were fouud to contain shot andiron weights, instead of gold dust. The boxes were doubled cased, and banded with iron, with seals nearly as good as new, showing that the operators were skilled in their business. The amount of missing dust reaches nearly 820,000, insurance of which falls upon two or three banking houses in New York.
The consignment to one firm is covered by insurance in London. It is thought that the robbery was committed at some point where the steamer touched during her homeward passage. . , ; . . . - Or-ScIaTonians, Greeks, Wallachians, Arnauts twelve millions of men are all held in submission by one million of Turks.
