Notice Extra, We have beenju the habit of making reinittanccs fur subscribers, to the publishers jpf Magazines ancT NeWSsper?: the last five yoars nt least, considering ourself author- . izedtu thus far act a3 the agents of these j ublicationj, and in so doing conferring an obligation to the parties interested. Editors are recognized thus far as agents by every periodical in the country, as we had suppo singular and tuspicionahle se remittances, the only ?a,t ro,w-a th nmn,r - sed. Well, it is a sin fict. that of all these nnP which nvrr failed to receive the rroner ' acknowledgment of the nubiisher. were two "f inscriptions sent to Godey's Lady Book, the

These subscribers did not to death's door in a very short time. They receive their Books, and we were compelled are probably right. If Pierce Clubs could to write again. The first subscriber, a lady, strke no heavier blows for a cauac, than has since received her Book. The second, Gen. the subtest ambition to figure as the Agent of the most wishy-washy periodical in the country, but which we have repcatedJy praised for its pretty appearance. Yet a notice on the cover of this Book declares all editors " and postmasters agents! We have made a statement of facts, and now leave it to other editors, to act as agents or not of this work as they please. Godey has been soft-sawder-ing and humbugging Western Editors about Ion" enough, but he get p-iid very well if he ' makes as much out of all as he is trying to - make from us. " rC"We perceive that oar friends of the Madison, Banner and Vincennes Gazette, - r peak very wrathfully but pointedly at our amiable neighbor of the Times. Why Lord bless you, gentlemen, nobody here pretends to notice his outlandish and unbacked statements, except u professionally, so you need not get wrathy at hi3 unparalleled impudence. Two more euch papers as the Times in Evansville, would kill Locofocoism "dead as a door nail" in these parts. D3"The Democratic State Central Com mittee of Kentucky have issued an Address to the Democracy of the State. For a com plete demolition, refutation, and we may say annihilation of this precious document, we refer our readers to the Louisville Journal of lat Thursday and Friday If that Commit tee don't feel pTf'fxino-ly diminished after mdirtT the Journal's comments, they are as nobile? a Prentice or Shreve j.roves them btupid and di-.honest.
The German Feeling. The following communication was handed us by an old German, who was lately a member of the Democratic party, so called; but who, as it will be seen by his letter, ia going to vote for Scott and Graham. We give the letter with but slight corrections of language: Mr. Editor: I had the honor last Friday night (Aug. 27th) of attending the German Whig meeting, for the purpose of gaining some information on the principles of the great parties. I always thought myself as good a Democrat as any one, but when it
comes to the principles of these two parties, there I was ignorant I did not know the diff erence between the two, no more than a child of six years of age. I had been taught that the Whigs were only a party made up of a few aristocratic natives of this country whose policy it was to ruin this free country, make a king, compel the Germans to stay twenty-one years in the United States before they could become citizens, and that the Whigs were opposed to emigration, so that our frienda can't come over to us. These were the things I learned. But you can't blame me for it, because coming fresh from Europe, we cannot speak the English language. We are not acquainted with the cus loms of this country. To say the truth wo are strangers, and I know many of my fellow Germans are not to blame forjthis. But I do sav that when Germans or any other foreigner3 jn t113 country long enough louniler- ., tupl, ftrA tn hUmo fftr hrMnotlUUU illllis, j ------- - - o I Democrats, as they are misnamed here. j Sir. Decker, theTspcaker, did his utmost to explain to his fellow-countrymen the difference between Democrats and Whigs as they , are known in this country. I was with many of my countrymen, rejoiced to have an opportunity to learn this difference and I can assure you, Mr. Editor, that I took down the banner from my pole, with its name of Tierce and King, and hoisted the glorious banner with the names of the greatemen Scott and Graham. I take my name off the Locofoco list, and declare myself a warm supporter of Scott and Graham! I would say to my German friends, not to be backward, but go and hear 3Ir. Decker Mr. Chandler and other Whigs epeak, and I am fully convinced you will do as I and many of my fellow Germans have done, A GERMAN WHIG DEMOCRAT. Layi5G ox tiie Hickory. We should like to hear some Democratic friend explain why the tiro Pierce clubs in this city are called "Hickory Clubs." The Whigs Lave two Clubs in Evansville which they call "Scott CM Evansville which they CIubs" They are not ashamed of their candidate. while in the other case it looks very! iron imitation of a theatre to.the artillery o heaven, Major Robiksos os Democracy. The Major in an address to the citizens of Rising Sun, a few weeks ago, informed his audience at the commencement, that he had always been a Democrat, that he had acted in good faith with that party as long as they were governed by principle?, but as soon as he found they were after nothing but the spoils cf office he left them. He said the party hdforsaen their principals and instanced the different positions it ha,J occupied on the subject of Banks,, and many other prominent questions, showing that its course had been so vascellating that te party possessed. We are glad to see the Major rrtef sußcient principle to make the above truthful statement; though we disagree with him politically, as widely as with the Locofoco party, yet are glad to sec him ac knowledge so notorious a fact. Singular Case. There ia now living in Holmes county, Miss., says the Lexington Sentinel, a woman who married her first hus band n September 1223. She subsequently parted with bim; and from time to time mar ried three others, with all of whom she sep arated. On the day twenty-five years from her first marriage, she parted with her fourth husband, attanded the funeral of her second, was married to her first, and the marriage ceremony was performed by her third hus band. She is now. living with her fifth, or rather her first husband and doing well, and is some woman yet. CTlIon. Samuel M. Huhbard, the new Postma?ter. General, is a citizen, of Middletown, Conn. He was formerly a member of Congress, and was a delegate to.the recent Whig National Convention, and is a 6trong Scott man. (O The Washington correspondent of the Philadelphia North American, says that the Democratic members of Congress from Pcnnsylvaniahave received euch news from their div.ncts as to compel thcra to admit that Ncutt will carrv that State.
In a Bad Humor. Neighbor Frary, of the Warrick Democrat,
appears to be getting excited. One of his subscribers it seems has ordered out his ad. vertisements and stopped the paper, for the , reason, as brother Frary says, that it is "too 1 Democratic ?Tf adds "Mr P can nroba-' uemocrauc. lie aaus, Jir. No one who has been accustomed to read that spicy and amusing 6hcet, can expect to "get along" without access to its most refreshing columns a truth which we fear Mr. P. will have to acknowlAa !!.. m..rt;ruinif it mnv nrnvP tr " him. Will friend Frary pardon us for asking if Mr. P. had no reason for withdrawing his patronage than the one stated.1 In fact is he sure that was the true reason at all! We happen to know 3Ir. P., and regard him as a man not likely to be influenced by motives such as are imputed to him;and are inclined to suspect anger rather than candor prompted our neighbor's remarks. ITfertlusr of Gcriunn IVIiIr. of mum WIii. Whigs of Evansville held a t. . , ,ourt House last Friday eveThe German meeti ng at the Court ning, and concluded the formation of a German Scott Club. Phillip Decker, was elect-f ed President; Wm. Heilman, Vice President, and Edward Newmaster, Secretary. A Constitution and Bye-Laws were adopted. The following resolutions were read and unanimously adopted. We respectfully refer them to those Germans, of both parties, who were not present. Speeches were made by Messrs. Bush, Decker and Carpenter: Whereas, we, as naturalized citizens, take a deep concern in the welfate of our adopted country, and whereas, from many years experience we consider ourselves competent to judge of the merits of the two great political parties, and as freemen desire to express our sentiments, without reserve, therefore Rrmhxd, That we rcceguize in the Whig party the party of progess and order, whose principles aim to protect and encourage all branches of industry and the general prosperity of our common country. Resolved, That we view the hostility Shown of late years to all measures Cur the improvement cf Western Rivers and'Uarbors by the Democracy as especially injurious to the inerest of the Great Weit; end that we bcieve it to Je the duty of the General Gov ernment, to protect and facilitate Western Commerce and intercourse.. fully as as the States, bordering upon the s?ea coasts " lteolvcd, That we recognize the principle of non-intervention, laid down with the Whig latform as politic and wise, persuaded that the quiet moral influence of our institutions ias done more and will contribute more to wards spreading republican principles abroad, than all our navies and armies could accom plish. Resolved, That we recognize in General Winfield Scott, a warm supporter of those principle.-1, as well as a man, who by his briliant military achievement as much as by Us civil merits has rendered himself worthy of the highest confidence and has well earned claims- upon .the gratitude of lie American people, and, that we will use all honorable means to insure his election. Rcsohrd, that the Editors of the Vo)kbte and of the Journal, be requested to publth these resolutions. For the Journal. Mr. Editob: The following article rppeared in the Times of Saturday last. Another Bolter! James E. Blythe, E-ri , heretofore a distinguished member of the wlig party in this the first Congressional i-strit, renounces whiggery, fincc the nominator of Scott, and declares himself openly a no party man. He would have voted for Fillmore. The statement in the foregoing article is untrue. I have not renounced the Whig paty; and I have, ever since his nomination, intended and still intend to vote for Gen. Sott. Yours Respectfully, JAS. E. BLYTIII. A Father and Three Children Lost.
