Western Interests is to be held this day at Evansville, we shall take occasion to make our speech wo if. as it is mod probable wc

will not be called up at the xnt'cting. Unlike most others whoe privilege it is to address the public, we shall let our remarks be particularly characterized by brevity, and thus secure some claims to tin? soul of wit, whether we obtain any of its body or not. Then, feilow-citizer.s.you will permit u.s to say, that although this Convention is composed of a multitude somewhat smaller than those mighty tides of men which have swelled into armies of the people the political or party conventions yet never did a meeting of the people convened under the banners ot a political party, have so great objects in view, such incalculable interests to maintain and advance, such wrongs to redress and rights to secure, as the meeting of this day.

We have met fi r no sectional nurjioäc, nor for i ., .i t i ii

benefit indirectly the whole country ; and ar

which every part of it is interested, and a convention likely to be followed by many

others of the same kind. It has already been our privilege to speak of the objects of this meeting in detail, and as to-day you will hear thcu most probably slated and enforced by thck eloquence cf a Marshall. und in the statistics and facta, and powerful language of a Denton, and in the remarks of other able men, and it is to be expected in the form of a memorial drafted and perfected by the talent of the convention it is idle for our weak pen to allude further to

the subject. It only remains 'or us to urge an unanimity of action on those subjects brought up for the consideration of the convention, that its voice may seem as of one tongue a full attendance from our own citizens, and a free extension of hospitality to those sträng er3 who may visit U3. With three cheers ringing in our cars for having made the shortest speech on the occasion, we sit dawn blushing with confusion.

Our Representative arrived here yesterday,

and will be present to-day in attendance at

the Convention. We believe Mr. Albertson's course in Congress has been such as to meet

with the approbation of his friends, and unofTensive to his opponents. If he has not

occupied so prominent a position as a talking member as others, he has generally been

ready to vote, ami has freely given his sup

port to all measures of Western interest. Our own city is indebted to him for the active

part he has taken in everything calculated to

promote its prosperity. He gave good as

distance in obtaining for us daily mails, and the appropriation for a Marine Hospital, and

did what he could lor his whole district. We

Lope his voice will be heard to day in the

know, direct from Europe, a large stock o

Cloths, Cassimcres, &c., which they have had manufactured into clothing, and can lhu3 sell on the most reasonable terms. They have also just received fi.fine assortment of Overcoats to all of which they invite the attention of country merchants especially. A viuit to their establishment will satisfy all as to the excellence of their clothing- in quality and make, and the cheapness of their prices.

Tlie IorIi Trade.

We arc as yet ignorant of contracts having

been made here for hogs to any great extent.

The present spell of cold weather, will doubtless commence operations. The opening price it is anticipated will n $3 00. There will be more buyers in maiket than usual, although it 13 net anticipated there will be more hogs packed this season than last. The Louisville Journal ol Saturday says that operation.! have commenced at several

of the bonces, but it has not been able to understand particulars of sales. The general opinion seems to be then: that the opening prices will be $3 53 for hogs weighing IC0 lbs. The Cincinnati Price Current of the 13th says : The only sales we have heard of was 270 head, averaging 100 to 200 lb?, at $3 50 per 100lbs.net. We have heard of several lots being on their way. and in the course of the ensuing week there will be a goo l many droves in the vicinity, where they will chiefly

rcmam until the weather becomes more la-

vorable for packing.

The St. Louis Intelligencer of the 13th has

the following :

IIoG3. In the pens there are already nearly

1,000 head of hogs. Thus f.ir, we have heard

of but one or two actual sale. One of 500

lead, for future delivery, at $2 75 to 33, di

viding on 200 lbs.; the ofher 1.1C0 head, for

The Madison Banner of Thursday says: Seme money was advanced Vesterd.w for a

lot of horrs at $3 40, net. We aUn heard

run of another sale at $3 12. but were

unable to ascertain whether it was true or

not.

The Convention resumed the consideration

of the section prohi'jiii.ig negret from holding properly, &c. Mr. llogiirs amendment' was laid on the table. . Mr. Hall said he wan willing to go as far as any in favor of prohibiting negroes from coming into the State, believing :t to be the will of his constituents j but w as opposed to interfering wish the rights of those now here. He therefore moved to add the following proviso ; Provided, That nothing herein contained hal! be eo construed, ns. to prevent any negro or mulatto, now residing in this State, from holding real property as heretofore." Mr. Gibson moved that the amendment be liiJ on ti e table; which motion did not prevail ayes 41, noes 57.
