W.U. II. CHANDLER & CO. YOUNGLOVE & SULLIVAN. II. C. HUNTINGTON. Practical Assoc i ati os. The N. Y. Sun relates an instance, in which the .principle of association has been carried out successfully in that city. About nine months ago a company of mechanics met, ami, contributing five dollars each, established an Association Grocery Store in Seventh street. The objects were: the purchase of groceries at the lowest wholesale prices, and, as far as practicable, from the producer; retailing them at the lowest prices which would pay expenses and yield a fair interest on the investment, and establishing a source of supply forthebest of articles were the interests of the customer would be subordinate to no other. The advantages of the store were not confined to the association onljr, but opened to the public . generali)'; and success, which could cot have been doubted from the outset, has attended the effort.. A dividend of fifteen, per ceut. actual profits has been made to the stockholders, w hich; with the savings in r!ces, has made no inconsiderable di fit re nee in the supporting their families quality not considered. . ' The cash plan, as mir bj reaJiljf inferred has been rigorously adopted in the sales department in this experiment. The cohsc quente U, there are no losses no bad debts to be accounted for. Purchasers pay as they go, or make advance deposites in cash. Nut a fraction of credit is given to any stockholders or stranger. On this the Boston Transcript observes: ' Associations like this ; need no formulas from Fourier for their prosperous' establish" tnent. They will thrive just so far as men can work together in harmony and integrity of purpose. Similar associations have flourished and faded long before the phalanaterian school' was heard of. Our whaling vessels are fitted out on the principle of association. There is a thriving establishment in this city wherein the system is admirably carried out. Such examples are much to be commended. a . a ana we wisn tney were more numerous. But where one such experiment has succeeded fifty have failed. , (rrrTlie ceffia of Hon. Dixon H.Lewis, the New York papers state, was of uncommon size, of mahogany, and with the body and lead u U ' casing was said to weigh upwards of nine hun dred lbs. On a plain silver plate was the fol lowing inscription: DIXON H. LEWIS, United Stales Senator, rSOM ALABAMA. Died in Kt w York, October 25, 1813 Aged 46 years 2 mos. 15 days.
