"Our Indianapolis friend3,remaiks the Cincinnati Gazette,"secms Ueterminatel j beut on making their citv tlie centre of a little railroad system, which shall ensure the prosperity of the lloosier Capital, end of all the town s in this manner connected vrith it. The State Journal gives a good account of the prospects of the Indianapolis and Feru Railroad, and expresses strong confidence in the construction at no distant day of the proposed Indianapolis and Lafayette Railroad. A party is now engaged, also, in locating the Indianapolis and Eellefontaine Railroad. The final location of the Indianapolis and TcrreHaute Railroad has been completed, and the lettiog to Greencastle, about thirty miles, will soon be made. Any one who will cast his eyes over the map of central Indiana, will see that the State Capital is weaving a handsome little iron net about her, to make up for the absence of natural channels of trade. She is pursuing a wise policy, and all that is needed to ensure its success, is a course of prudent movements at the outset. Lt her interest as much as possible in the building of the Several roads under view' the farmers along their linos, and all will be well. Fgreign capital may properly enough be obtained on bonds to put down the rails and supply the equipments, but should not be sought till the roads are graded, the bridges built, and the whole wooden superstructure is completed. "Weuote these evidences of the prosperity andenterpris? of our Indiana friends, with real pleasure. The fourth State of the Union, in point of population, as she will be at the taking of the next census, it behooves Iter to show tthat the has a spirit worthy of her excellent - rank." As goes the Empire State, so goes tue Usiox The New York Herald has an estimate, based upon the strength of the election of 1SI7, in which it allows Mr. Van Curen 15,UCO Whig votes, and says the Whigs will then poll 217,000, w hich will be a majority over the Jlmikers of75,0C0,and of OO.OOOovcr the Barn burners. It adds lliit New York may be set dona "all right for Tajlor" CCrDAS RicVs great Circus will exhibit iu-re on the lSih. It is feaid by the Cincinnati papers that the receipts of this concern, for three Jay in that city, was three thousand dollars. Finaxcierixo. Gen. Cass erected the first distillery ever established in Michigan, and the Detroit Rough and Heady says that he sold hit whiskey to the In Hans at thir'y dollars per gallon! Vivid DesC2IPTI0X. -Here is a picture, and a dismal one, too, of Ireland. Was there ever o diurnal, so awful, so heart sickening a description of desolation brooding darkly ovtr , God's earth? Is there any thing in scriptural prophecy of the vrork'of God's, awful vengeuce ejual to the terrible reality wrought by the unfpiring tyranny of man? 'Survey the Island and see if it does not show all the symptoms of a Nation doomed to this destiny? Poverty shivers and ichines a familiar guest in every street and highway, care tilts amid the curling hair vf youth and makes hollow and ican the beardless face, the unburdened waves fret themselves tojoam on solitary brands; the long armrd promontories hold out iheir lamps to light the path of commerce, lut teamen give them wide berlns and hold their course to lands free and fortunate.
