MONDAY MORNING, .SEP. 4, 1848. The Jesuits in Galicia, (Austria,) have received orders to quit that country before the 15th of July. The reverend fathers possess there five great establishments, viz: a convent in the capital, a gymnasium and a seminary of philosopher at Tarnopol; in the east and a normal school, to which is attached a sort of penitentiary prison, at Starnowicz, in the circle of Sandecz. so that the country was found entirely under the domination of the Jesuits. Nine Miles or Flour. - The quantity of flour burnt up on the pier at Albany, was about 15,000 barrels, which being placed endwise, would extend over nine miles, the same being two feet deep, and as many wide. It is said a party of young men are organising in Philadelphia to take part in the Buffalo hunt on the Rio Grande. Costly C em ext. The New York Journal of Commerce lias started the idea that the mile age i of the members of Congress is the cement of the "Union' - From the way the members tick to it, it reallv stems to be verv adheaire. TniVMPH or a Dead Coos. A friend just returned from Logansporl, iclutcs an anecdote at the expt'nsc of the iinterrilied lX-in(X:r.icy of that place, which is worthy of being published from one eml of the Union to the other, as ominous of the sd defeat which awaits him at the approaching election. A number of the faithful'' had prepared a pole, winch lliey iiileiHletl raiMiig. Aller ine difficulty, it was made to assume an up right position, which it maintained for a mo ment, when thnrn it came uith a crasA.' Cluigrined, but not disheartened, the work wa abandoned till the next day, when, a multitude having been asmbled from the ou n Try, and elsewhere, it was resumed, ami the pole erected. Proud of the achievement, and with the spiteful design of striking terror into the hearts of their political adversaries, a cannon was brought out to salute the lofty standard ol the Loeofoco banner. A live coon h-ivtug b-vn procured, was in continently fckinnr;!, and rammed into the can non on top of the charge. . . flr.-at was lite exultation at this juncture, as eihihilcd in the loud laughter and prolonged Hliouts of the e(-tatiirs. llam down the old om! . Vl'reak his bones! ' "rlux It into him!" l tu r oUaud blow AVhirjyrr and tycoon to the de il! - . . They did let her ofT, amid the clamor of excited voices; and the spirit of the old -coon like Simpson, when he bowed himself and em braced the pilUr-i of thti Philistine Temple, put a Ui but mighty e!Fjrt,au J bunted the cannon into atom!! . No person was injured, but we would have our Lmofoco neighbors, who are so apt at citing oineus. bear this in mind as one worthy to oflel a hundred of those little unavoidable occurrence to which our attention is occasionally directed, and which are construed as indicative ol Whig defeat.
