From the fttttburg Gaulte. THE past summer (1S47) has been a very remarkable one. Frequent and heavy rain, followed by intense and long continued heat, had the effect, in the first place, to promote a rapid growth ot succulnt vegetation, and in the second, to produce a rapid decomposition of vegetable matter, giving rise to much missuia and spreading sickness, disease and death, in L-'etes which had heretofore been remarkable for their salubrity. We are credibly informed, that whole meadows, on which the gras was unusually heavy, rotted to the ground and was not fit to be cut. In Indiana and Illinois, thesickness was so general, that there wa not enough well persons to attend upon the sick, whoso suliir rings were protracted by a want of proper remedies, as well as of good nursing. Much ot this suffering nii;;ht have been prevented, had every family kept on hand a supply of medicines suited to counteract the effects of tins miasma, with which the atmosphere at certain times is surcharged. In nddi tion to Quinine, (which is in such general use as to need no comment,) we would strongly urge every family to keep on Jiand one or more boxes of "D. M 'La xl's Live Pills.'1 These Pills are the prescription of an eminentPhysician in "IonongahcfaCo. Virginia, and were used by him in his private practice as a remedy in billious complaint, for years before he thought of ottering them to the public. Such, however, was the success io the Pills, and so great the number of persons beuetued by them, that the making of the quantity requisite to Bupply the increasing demand, began to interfere materially with the time required to attend to his practice. To prevent this he has made arrangements with the house of J. Kidd Sl Co. No. 60 Wood Street, Pittsburg, Pa. to prepare and vend them, where the genuine may be procured at all times and in any reasonable quantity. The?e Pills are not recommended as a panacea for 'all the ills that flesh is heir to," but in all affections of the Liver and in all bilious complaints, they stand without a rival. All who have ever used themi give them the preference over all other Pill., and cannot be persuaded to exchange those which they find experience to be mild, sn ft, and tftctual,(ot any other, even though they may be sugar coated, or so drastic as to go "through by day light." No sooner does Truth propound an important theory, than er ror, with tu legion of allies, seeks to arrest its progress.
