The "LV bom Block," a well known granite builnS in Federal street Poston, fell on Saturdayf k with a tremendous crash. Some 30 persons wfe in the building at the time of the accider but fortunately no one was seriously ijured. About 4 P. One of.the Boton papers estimates the loss of property t 8275,000, exclusive of the building. ' C3The New Orleans Bee in speaking of the rumor, put afloat by the Locofocosof that city, that Gen. Taylor would not accept the nomination of the Whig convention, says: The enemies of Gen. Taylor, in their rage and despair at his brilliant prospects, are already beginning their attempts to injure him in the estimation of the Whig party by hinting his unwillingness to accept the Whig nomina tion, and by circulating flimsy reports to the effect that the delegates from Louisiana did not speak his sentiments in the written statement which they laid before the convention. These absurd and groundless rumors have been bruit ed about our city with commendable diligence by the liocotoco leaders. Here, where uen. Taylor is thoroughly known, where every man in our city is fully aware that old Zack is a Whig and "nothing else, all such weak inven tions of the enemy are bootless. But they are not intended for home consumption. They are designed for effect in the Northern States, where the position of cur gallant champion is not so well understood. V e take this occasion, therefore, to warn our Northern Whig friends in season, and assure them that no credit whatever is to be attached to the fabrications of Gen. Taylor's political adversaries, or the silly atones got up Dy some ot nu proiesseu sup1,ICIS e will here - repeat says the Louisville journal tne statement w.e made on fcaturday. A highly respectable gentleman, whosaw Gen. Taylor at Baton Rouge on the 23d, informed us thai. the. Ufcneral endorsed the statement made by Judge Saunders in his behalf in the rmladelphta convention. Our informant was I Capt. Jno. W. Russell. We do not believe that he misunderstood the language or the po-j fcition ol üen. lajlor, and we know that he is incapable' of intentionally misrepresenting either. I Unquestionably Gen. Taylor still adheres, as
he is bound to do, to his oft-repeated determi-j0n
nation to be the candidate ol the people and not of a party, but we hare no idea that the Louisiana delegation spoke for him without authority or that he has disavowed or will dis avow what that delegation said. frj-Tomatoes about the size of a walnut told at the Cincinnati market on their first appearauce at twenty-five cents a piece! Louis Napoleon has enkindled the old Bo naparte enthusiasm. A soon as the Government perceived these symptoms, 100,000 troops were concentrated at Paris. Disturbances occur nightly. On the 10th, 2,000 rioters were hemmed in and made prison ers, among whom were Englishmen and Amer icans disguised as women. The Assembly at first displayed a noble feel ing by eloquently denouncing the tyrants and dictatorship; but the popular feeling was di f ided, and cries of Vive La Repulliquc were sometimes drowned by cries of Vive Bona parte. On Monday, when it was rumored that Louis Napoleon had arrived, more than one regiment of the National Guards shouted Vive F Empercur. Lamcrtine then mounted the tribune as pale as death and demanded a restoration. A majority of thirty-two was against LouisNa poleon. Whilst Lamertinc was speaking, a shot was fired outside and shouts rent the air of Vive 1' Empereur; Lamcrtine eat down overwhelmed. One National Guard was fchotand Lamertine by a skillful turn took advantage of it; saying it was the first blood shed for despotism and not for the Kepublic. The decree was then sanctioned by acclamation, but the people dis pile ,jie decree, aud declare that Louis NapoIpoh .hall tulcA hi sent. Qn the 13th the excitement increased. Bar-1 ricades were attempted to be erected, bat the overwhelming military force prevented them. hn lue evening the assembly by a large majority reversed the decision of the previous day, and declared Louis admitted to membership. LeJru Rollin opposed the motion, but the ma jorily prevailed, and thus opened the door to civil war. Lcdru Rollin immediately resigned. U is rumored that Lamertiue will follow his Jexample. At Arrena a proclamation was issued callhng the people to arms to place Louis Napoleon the throne. On Wednesday Paris was quiet. Louis Napoleon was hourly expected. Perrigny, a leader of the Bonaparte party, has been arrested. Near 6,000 commercial houses of Far is have suspended. Ireland is more tranquil since the convic tion of Mitchel. The fraternization of old and young Ireland has been postponed for a fort night. John O'Connel has protested against the abandonment of his father's platform, but does not receive much favor.
