From the Pittsour g GaieturZ. THE past summer (1S47) has been a very remarkable one. Frequent and heavy rain, followed Ly intense and long continued heat, Lad theefH-ct, in the tim place, to promote a rapid growth of aucculnt vegetation, and in the second to produce a rapid dcoinpositkn of vegetable matter, giving rise to much tm-na and spreading sickness, cisease and death, inj. which had heretofore been rernartable for their salubrity. " " We are credibly informed, that whole meadows, on which the grass was unusually heavy, rotted to the ground and was not fit to be cut. In Indiana and Illinois, the sickness was so general, that there was not enough w ell persons to attend upon the tick, whose sutfi rings were prctracted by a wont of proper remedies, as well as of good nursing. - Much of this suffering might have been prevented, had every family kept on hand a supply of medicines suited to counteract the effects of this miasma, with which the atmosphere at certain times is surcharged. In nddi tion to Quinine, (which is in such general use as to need no comment,) we would strongly urge erery family to keep on hand one or more boxes of "DR. M 'Lane's Lives Pills." These Pills are the prescription of an eminentPhysician in Monongahala Co. Virginia, and were used by him in his private practice as a remedy in billious complainu, for years before he thought of offering them to the public. Such, however, was the success fo the Pills, and so great the number of persons benefited by them, that the making of the quantity requisite to supply the increasing demand, btgan to interfere materially with the lime" required to attend to his practice. To pi event this he has made arrangements with the house of J. Kipd & Co. No. CO Wood Street, Pittsburg, Pa. to prepare and vend them, where the genuine may be procured at all times and in any reasonable quantity. These Pills are not recommended as a panccca for 'all the ills that flesh is heir to," but in all affections of the Liver and in all bilious complaints, they stand without a rival. All who have ever used them, give i hem the preference over all other Pill, and cannot be persuaded to exchange those which they find cipcri ence to be mild, safe, and $icfi, for any other, even though they may be swear coated, or so drastic as t go ''through by day light."
