Frequent and heavy rain, followed by intense and long continued heat, had the effect, in the first place, to promote a rapid growth of succulent vegetation, and in the second to produce a rapid decomposition of vegetabUi matter, giving rise to much mina and spreading sickness, disease and death, inj. "?s which had hervtofore been remarkable for their salubrity. . , We are credibly informed, that whole meadows, on which the grass was unusually heavy, rotted to the ground and was not fit to be cut. In Indiana and Illinois, the sickness was so general, that there was not enough well persons to attend upon 'the sick, whose sutf rings were prctractcd by a want of proper remedies, as well as of good nursing. Much of this fullering might have been prevented, had every family kept on hand a supply of medicines suited to counteract the cllecta of this miasma, with which the atmosphere at certain times is rurcharged. In addi tion to Quinine, (which is in such general use as to need no comment,) we would strongly urge every family to keep on hand one or more boxes of "D. M'La.ve's Liver, Pills.". These Pills are the prescription of an eminentPhysician in MonongahalaCo. Virginia, and were need by him in his private practice na a remedy in billious complaints, for years before he thought of offering them to the public Such, however, was the success to the Pills, and so great the number of persons benefited by them, that the making of the quantity requisite to supply the increasing demand, legan to interfere materially with the time required to attend', to his practice. To prevent this he has made arrangements with the house of J. Kidd & Co. No.. 60 Wood Street, Pittsburg, Pa. to prepare and vend them, where the genuine may be procured at all times and in any reasonable quantity. . These Pills are not re:ommended as a panacea for all the ills that fleh is heir to, but in ail aflections of the Liver and in all bilious complaints, they stand without a rival.
