Element fm Boston, via Havana, 12ih ult-- Austria, 19 days from Boston. Charles Carroll, 20 days from Boston. the Daguerreotypist, is again in the city and will remain two weeks. On his former vis it he took quite a number of likenesses, the best ever executed here. He returns at the invitation of a number of our citizens, and wi'l of course rind constant employment for the short time he wilt remain. We tender him our thanks for files of Cincinnati and Louisville papers. Numbers of country merchants are now in the city Eurchasing their spring supplies rinding this aret more desirable and convenient than that or the Last. Cincinnati Commercial. And numbers of country merchants that formerly purchased their spring supplies in your city, Mr. Commercial, now rind tkit market '"more desirable and convenient" than either Cincinnati or any place East of that. Notwithstanding the hard times, more good have been received and sold here the present season so far, than during the whole of last, and country merchants still continue to arrive. They will buy where they can buy cheapest. m-i .1 . . r : : .: - u 1.papers, are luxuriating in iced-lemonade (colored ol coarse) and ice-cream,while our mornings here make fires and winter clothinz feel ouite comfortable. This is just the weather for ague and fever and people should take care of themselves, and the doctors. fö-Somebody says "Of all poor devils an ignorant men left alone is the most to be pitied So we tbink; and if there are any in this community who are likely to be caught in that fix, if they have not done so already, we advi them to subscribe for the Daily Journal at once. "It is not good for Man O be alone," and the Journal is a first rale companion. Try it. The gntnett thin; we have met with in our rua ket this season was the chap who declined to take our Daily Journal because it was so larfc'e hehad'nt time to read it! We'll admit our daily is tons, but it don't begia to be aslargw as a di nt in tint man's eyes. Evasstillx Whirf. We learn from on of the Contractors for building the wharf, that the grading of the bank will not be commenced until after the June freshet. They are now busy beating rock for the gutters and fastenings, some hundreds perch of stone having already been deposited at the foot ol Main street. After the June rise the work wilt be pushed ahead with the utmost igor, and a portion of the wharf completed in time for the fall buäiies. KrWe see by the papers that the merchants of St Louis are sen-ling Corn to Tennessee and Bacon to Cincinnati. This, we should say, is "taking coals to Newcastle. . CouxTEsrriT. One's on the Franklin (Columbus) bank of the Ohi State Bank, altered to five's have made their appearance. We were shown one ol them on Saturday. They arc well executed and hard to detect. Look out. ÖCrlt is said that a letter has been received by a gentleman in New Orleans from Santa Anna, writ ten previous to his leaving Mexico, saying, that there was no prospect thai the treaty would be ratified by the Mexican Government, and that the war was only commencing. KrOurold friend Nick. Fix treated us to a bottle .1 Snnice the other dav. the best we ever drank. He r - " intends to kern a constant supply during the sum a w - incr. Of course he'll be patronised. Jon Doskey. We have received the pictom John Donkey, together with all the numbers of that most excellent paper op to the present time, and w intend to file them away for the benefit of those who but no matter, we shall file them. John says he don't charge printers the first red cent for exchanging, Judging from this we should say he is not half as big an a$ as some others we could mention.
