' FACES WE’VE SEEN WHILE doing the stroll and there was Sgt. Eldred L. HOLSTON, now located_at 519 QMi Trk. Regt., Camp Joe E. Robinson, Ark., and T-5 Moses WATKINS; with Co. D. Trk. Bn, T. D. No. 6, Camp Hood, Texas, the. same camp where Anthony BENNETT and Les CLARK are stationed and am sure you’ve seen the streamline version of ex-Lincoln high school math teacher, James THOMPKINS!!! ! !—he’s about 25 pounds on the lighter side and is doing: a stretch at soljering out Fort Clark, Texas way, the home of the calvary—James also did a hitch at Ft, Sills, Okla„ but his brother is more fortunate far aa being closer to home is concerned, he’s stationed at Camp. Campbell. Ky., and is able to pay regular week-end.-visits home to see the folks and furloughing after completing “boot’’ at Great Lakes are two able bodied former Lincoln star athletes, Israel JONES (former captain of the Lions football team) and Angelo HOWARD (former track star for Coach Niles)—these two have returned with “Little” RICKETTS, who entrained for Great Lakes after furloughing here. ooooooooooooooo
ADDRESSES ARE ALWAYS NICE, to have and so we give you a few—Sgt. Luther NORTHINGTON, HQ Troop* Camp Lockett California—Corp. Curtis. BELL, E. Troop, Camp Lockett, Calif.—Pfc. Lelsie McDOW, No. 35491733, 256 QM Bn. Co. D., APO 957 c-o P. M., San Francisco, California—he’s somewhere in Hawaii and seems to like it fine—Pvt. Frank J. NEWELL, No. 35733027 ASN 42 QM Park Troop, Camp Carson, Colorado—Sgt. Aaron B. COLEMAN, No. 16045155, Co. E. 1313 Engr. (GS) Regt., Camp Claibourne, La.—you don’t have an idea as to how happy these youth are when they receive letters from friends and pals at home—so let’s get busy and start pern ning all of, ’em a few lines and if they’re a bit late in an? swering, don’t stop as some may be on maneuvers when your letters arrive. ooooooooooooooo
THE LA FENDRICH CIGARS MAY all have been passed around to friends by this time, but it’s not too late to congratulate Eugene MALONE and. Branch COLE, Jr., on being the poppas to, two fine big baby boys—both Norr ma.and Cordelia, mothers, are doing fine—next time you see Harold DAVIS, you may be looking at the property of Uncle Samuel—the same for Nathaniel “Big Bloaty” COATES* Roy SLOAN, Les THOMAS and a few others— today is Wednesday and they are to be examined soon— almost forgot that we’re not to mention dates, etc., of such bui we can mention the date of the very beautiful wedding of Miss Cora OATES and Corp. Garfield LINDSAY— Twas last Sunday at the home of. the bride, in the Lincoln Gardens and the affair was one of the smartest of the current social season and we guess you saw Lieut, and Mrs. George B. EDWARDS, who were in the city last week en route to Ft. Huachuca, Ariz., where the Lieut, has been transferred from Camp Butner* N; Cr—write he and the madam at No. 01313027, 92nd Infantry Division—APO cfd Postmaster, Ft. Huachuca, Ariz.—-they had their pretty little baby with them. ooooooooooooooo
HAVE WE LACED YOUR BOOTS TO THE fact that Homer REED was furloughing last week, the week after Fred OATES was slapped in the clink for selling “weeds’’ to a soldier in the uptown district so the police report and William “Sonny” WHARTON, ace Palm Hotel mixologist, is back in the city from the World Series and with his pockets jammed—he. believed that much in the Yankees and so did Julius MITCHELL, who carried several Cardinals fans to the cleaners—when you see Lucy GIVENS address her as Mrs. Lucy ECHOLS—she and Jeremiah, he’s a corporal in the army, were married October 15—his home is in Birmingham, Ala., and in the city during the past week-end was Mrs. Clarabelle Burks-GRAHAM of Louisville—she’s a former local personality now making her home in the Kentucky city—her hubby, Sgt. William GRAHAM was recently tendered a medical discharge from the armed forces. ooooooooooooooo
GUESS YOU’VE BEEN TOLD that “THE KENO DOZEN CLUB” has added two new members,. Lillian “Lil Green” CARR and Gwendolyn Louise Jennings-CHINN—• the club bids fair to being the most popular in Derbyvillej and the crown of “Pokeno King’’ of the week is being worn by Bill HACKNER, bartender at Lincoln Tap Room —during the Sunday meet of the club, Corporal and Mrs.; Emmett BURCH of Camp Breckenridge, Ky., were fetedas guests—the popular duo hail from Kansas City, Kansas, the home place of Ethel Mae GIRTON, efficient tray slinger at Lincoln Tap Room, and have you seen that new electric cooler at the Sun-Rise Cafe—’tie why you always find the beer so deliciously cold there and with a top rated bartender as James ROUSE, ’nuf sed—there’s all the service a fella needs. , * oooooooooooooo WE SPIED ON THE STROLL during the past weekend, a personal friend of Allen W. JENKINS, district manager of the Mammoth Life and Accident Insurance Company, WALTER ROBINSON of Detroit, who was called to the city on the sudden death of one of his relatives—could that have been Amos HARTWELL, the Indianapolis sharpie, doing the spots with Lillie Mae LEWIS ta other dark and was she rigged and sporting one of the hair-dos so familiar to the smart togged femmes from out East and
Dick SHAW’S top bartender, Joe “Rock” JOHNSON, was also doing the spots—in case you’re not hepped tb Dick Shaw’s, ’tis one of Naptown’s most popular nighteries— and tq you squares, Naptown is Indianapolis—and fete Cliftpn JONES to a,drink as he shoves off and.soon to take up the “colors” and for the benefit olall, J. W. YOUNG wants to state that he’s very much and happily married and is not the least bit interested in outsiders and he states that the little sentence we have a few columns ago in reference to a certain local chick being sweet on him was sorta off-key and if such exists, he’s very much unaware of the same.
ooooooooooooooo THEY SAY THAT BILL Fleming is that much for the swing and goes into his dance when the platter goes ’.round and. ’round and did .you, see that fine hair-do worn so. gracefully by Rozella HAMBLETON - WASHINGTON, who is now visiting from Chicago????? and what’s that we hear—you believe that Tack did a “Dixie Flyer’’ tq the : Windy City and brought her back and that he may return to Chicago, with her—could be!!! could be!! and do we hear that Anna Catherine LEWIS will do a guest appearance on an Indianapolis radio station this Sunday—she’s a music student at Indiana University. By all means don’t forget to see the mighty‘Lincoln‘Lions tangle with" Sumner High School of St. Louis Saturday night on the gridiron and we hear that William “Buck Jones” SMITH will be in i the backfield to lay down a lot of fine blocking for shifty' ‘ and speedy Herschel REEVES and they’re expecting to see the Lions tangle with one or more of the other city high school teanis. ere the season ends and we have been told . that David BRIDGES will be in that Lincoln lineup Saturday night-watch out!! you mighty St. Louisians—the Purple and Gold Charges of Coach Ned Niles will be in there and pitching.
