Colored Artist Featured In Cream of Kentucky Ads

People in Denbyville and regular readers of the ARGUS may soon get a chance to see a series of Schenely Conporation ads featuring noted colored imj n and women of days gone by, as depicted by E. Simms, the noted colored artist. The Schenely Corporation, mak. •era of Cream of Kentucky whiskey, has released the first ad of the series which features Ike Murphy famous colored Kentucky Derby jockey. This copy has been tested in other colored markets and found a tremendous acceptance among colored consumers. Other ads in the series will follow the Murphy feature. The makers of Cream of Kentucky announce that their products are going over big in the colored markets throughout the country and our paper is pleased' to be able to carry the Iball for our market area. The Panthers roared through Cl AA warfare, taking 13 out of 14 contests in addition to taking 8 out of 9 non-conference tilts. Union led 39.16 at Half time.

SOUTHERN MISSION UPSETS LEADERS OF SUNDAY SCHOOL LEAGUE FESTUS, Mo. — Coach Theodore (Rail) Smith’s Junior Rens basketball team of Ward’s Chaipel AME Sunday School, suffered an upset last Wednesday night, when they were defeated by Southern Mission of St. Louis by the score of 16 to 15. The Rens have fourteen victries to their credit thus far -this season and two defeats. Because of their excellent showing this season and their fine sportsmanship, the Rens have had several offers to play benefit games for various organizations in and around St. Louis.

SIAC Record Set TUSKEGEE, Ala.—Henry Holden, S. C. State’s crack center from Toledo, Ohio, has set a new SIAC record for individual scoring in a single season, boasting 396 in 24 games at the close of the ninth annual tournament, 56 better than the old record of 340 by Frank Crozier of Xavier m 1941 and 60 better than the mark of 336 in 1927 by Horace Dalton of Clark, which stood for 15 years before Crozier smashed it last season. Tuskegee set a new team record for the tournament when she beat Fisk 81-32 in the quarterfinals.

NAACP ACTS AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY' IN N. J-. BRIDGETON, N. J. — Investigation and possible prosecution of patrolman Otis Husted, charged with the fatal shooting of 23-year old Milton Lewis of Atlantic City, will be undertaken by the Jersey state conference of- NAACP branches, according to Dr. D. W. Anthony. Lewis was shot on xhe night of January 29, according to reports, after he was supposed to halve evaded arrest by Husted who accosted him while he was sitting in a car. Husted shot him twice, once in the leg, and once in the thigh. But the coroner ascribed his death to "shock. ” The leg wounds were negligible.
