FARM NOTES.
If young pigs have the scours give them fresh charcoal. By heating the milk and adding a little salt, feeding it to the pigs warm, it will often correct disorders of the bowels without resort ing to medicine.
Mineral matter is never lost on the farm unless sold in the shape of crops or stock. When material is consumed by fire there is a loss of volatile matter, but the minerals remain to be converted into some other crop.
The Chinese sacred lily is a Narcissus belonging to the polyanthus group. It can be grown in bowls or shallow dishes filled with small pebbles and kept well supplied with water. Hyacinths can also be grown in the same way.
If the sheep are sheltered in a shed at night and the shed inclosed with a gocd fence, the saving from loss by dogs and by the protection afforded will pay the cost of the shed and fence if the tlock is a moderately large one. "Can I grow mutton profitably 300 miles from the market?" asks a corre spcndent. Well, Kentucky sella more thun 20,000 sheep every year in the Boston market and gets more per pound fur them thton New England breeders get for their sheep.
The potato crop of the country is esti mated at 213,000,000 bushels, an increase of 17,000,000 bushels over that of IRSI year. Estimating the population at G5,000,000 EOUIF, it will be seen that there are over three and one-half bushels for eich man, woman and child in the United States.
Level lands may be ploughed at any season of the year, and are greatly benefited when ploughed and left unharrowed during the late fall, or when the weather permits^ in winter. Such lands should be well underdroined. F.11 or winter ploughing is sometimes injuri ous to hilly lands by allowing the raits to carry off fertility, as the lighter portions are washed during excessive wet seasons.

1 lie breath of a chronic ca'arrh patient is often so offensive that he becomes an object of disgust- After a time ulceration sets in, the spongy bones are attacked and frequently entirely destroyed. A constant source of discomfort is the dripping of puruient secretions into the throat, sometimes producing inveterate bronchitis, which in its turn has been the cause of pulmonary disease. The brilliant results which have attended its use for years past properly designate Ely's Cream Balm as by far the beet and only cure.
