The Miners Out at Currysrtlie Special to the Express.
SHELKURN, Ind., December 9.—This morning the men at the Currysville mines, with the exception of a few, remained out. The cause given by the men for the strike ia the removal of Reuben Froment, jr., from shoveling slack and putting in a new man. The men claim that the company should have given him notice before taking a new man on trial and throwing out an old hand, who the men say the company admit has given entire satisfaction.
PACKING POULTRY FOR MARKET
After dressing clean, drawing and washing out clean, the fowl should be hung up until the animal heat is all out. Care must be taken in this respect, as if they are packed when warm they will spoil much quicker than if care is taken to thoroughly cool. On the other hand it will be best not to allow them to freeze, as this is nearly as bad as packing too soon. Clean, light boxes should be used. Those in which boots and shoes have been shipped are good for this purpose, as they are clean and light. They should be lined with white cloth or manilla pnpar. Newspaper should never be us3d. The fowls should be packed in closely, so that in handling they will not bruise or chafe, but they should not be pressed in so tightly as to get them out of sBape, as this detracts from their appearance and lessens their salable value. Choice fowls of medium size, in a good condition, packed so that when placed upon the market they will present neat-, clean, plump appearance will sell at good prices, even when the market is overstocked and it is difficult-, if not impossible, to sell those of a lower grade at any price.
In preparing to pack, the wing should be fastened over the back and the legs be slipped through the strip left in dressing. Slip the skin of the neck over the bone and tie. If scalded before packing, it would add to the appearance to dip in hot water after dressing and before hanging up.
SUGGESTIONS FOR H01SEWIVES.
Swallowing saliva often relieves sour stomach. Hot dry timnel, applied as hot as possible, for neuralgia.
When not in use the umbrella should be left loose, unconfined by elastic silken band.
