ENDOWMENT BOUSE OATH',

[CONTINUED FROM FIRST PAGE.] that in later years the former feeling of hostility has disappeared, or become greatly modified. The evidence, however, does not sustain this claim." The evidence shows that the church has, in the most determined manner, and with all the means at its command, opposed the enforoament of the laws of the United States against polygamy and unlawful cohabitation. "During the ten days this investigation' lasted, not a word of evidence wa8 introduced showing that any preacher of that church ever, in a single instance, advised obedience of the laws against polygamy, on the contrary, the evidence was that it has persistently refused obedience to Bt least a portion of the laws of tbe poverenment has insulted and driven United States officers from the territory and has denied the authority of the United States to pass laws prohibiting polygamy as an unwarranted interference with their religion. "Undoubtedly there are many members of this church who feel kindly to the government, and would gladly break the shackles that bind them to tbe Mormon pristhood if they felt that they dared do so. But with an organization the most thorough that can be imagined which can be wielded against them they remain in the church rather than take the risk of financial ruin and social ostracism. "After reciting the teachings of the Mormon Cburch at leDgtb, the judge says: "It has always been, and still is, the policy of this government to encourage aliens who in good faith come to reside in this country to become citizens. But when a man of foreign birth comes here and joins an organization, although professedly religicue, which requires of him an allegiance paramount of his allegiance to the government, an organization that-impiously claims to be the kingdom of God, to control its members under his immediate direction and yet teaches and practices a system of morale, shocking to christian people everywhere, it is time for the courts to pause and inquire whether such men aB applicants should be admitted to citizenship The evidence in this case establishes unquestionably that the teachings, practices and purposes of the Mormon Church are antagonistic to the government of the United States, utterly subversive of good morals and the wellbeing of society, and that its members are animated by a feeling of hostility towards the government and its laws. Therefore an alien who is a member of said church is not a

The Jewel stoves and ranges are the best on earth. Townley stove company. The genuine Round Oak is the best heating stove ever made. For SBle only by Townley stove company. Don't buy imitations when you can get tbe original.

On easy payments. Large line of holiday goods, consisting of rockers, rugs, parlor sets, lace curtains, lamps, lounges, carpets, stoves, easels, albums, and a great many other useful articles at Jas. T. Royse'e, G71 Main street.

We are fast becoming a nation of consumptives and dyspeptics there are several causes for this: Colds, improper food, eating hastily with a rush. There is a limit to human endurance. As a tonic and a preventative to both, Old Cobweb's pure liquors used will prevent both.

The Townley stove company have something new in the line of heatiog stoves for burning coal oil. These stoves are useful for heating bath-rooms, bed-rooms, conservatories,-etc., and, also, larger rooms when weather is such that moderate heat is required and one does not care to start a grate or baseburner. Try one.

You are thinking of Christmas preseuts and, of course, you want to select a suitable one. What can be nicer or more appropriate than one of those fancy chairs in leatherjor plush, a book-case or hat-rack. These and countless other articles of furniture, such as folding bed?, side-boardp, bed-room sets in antique oak, cherry or walnut, can be found at Fred Goetz, 635 Main street.

Goodman A Hirschler, the largest clothing house in the city, ask everybody to come and see their big display of heavy-weight suits and overcoats. They don't believe in big bluster and wild advertising, but assure everybody that they don't lie idlp, and want to sell goods as bad as anybody. They positively seil good goods for lees money than lots of houses sell cheaper grades of goods. They are able to sell goods as cheap as any house in the country, and the public can go there feeling perfectly satisfied that whatever they buy of Goodman & Hirschler is as cheap as can be bought anywhere, no matter how cheap other houses advertise to sell.

Mr. Tom Li. Cannon, special agent of the Sheffield (Ala) Land, Iron & Coal company, is in the city arranging for an excursion to Sheffield on the 10th inst. A party from Indianapolis has been secured and several of our leading citizens have expressed a desire to joinjthe excursion, which will likely pass through Terre Haute. Only a limited number can be taken and Mr. Cannon expects to secure very low fare for the trip. Evan^ ville and other points in the state hBve sent excursions to Sheffield during tbe past fifteen months and Evansville's leading citizens attribute much of their present boom to the excellent ideas of establishing a town on a firm basis gotten at Sheffield.

There is certainly no house in the city that carries as large and good a line of clothing for men. boys and children than Goodman & Hirschler, and as far as prices go, well, anybody with good judgement would know that they don't want to lose any trade, but on the con: trary, want to sell everybody, old and new"customers, and certainly would not under any circumstances want mora for their goods than other dealers sell for, but on the contrary, will positively sell goods for lees money than most dealers are able to sell. They make no wild promises, all they ask is for people to look through their stock and they will then be convinced that they mean what they say.

ASSESSMENT INSURANCE. A well-known actor^DuncBn B. Harrison, ia complaining through the Dramatic Mirror that he cannot collect insurance money due him from an accident assessment company located at Pittsburg. "Last May," says Mr. Harrison, "I got out an accident insurance policy in it, by which $3,000 was to be paid at my death, and $25 a week to me in case of accident. The following month I broke my leg and was laid up for seventeen weeks. To be easy on them, I sent in a claim for only eight weeks—S200. Since then I have written seven letters to them, sending in all my proofs, the last one ten days ago, without hearing a word in reply. Now it is my intention to sue for the whole amount, besides making these facts known everywhere." With the "moral" staring him in the face everywhere, "Insure in the Travelers," Mr. Harrison has only himself to blame for his folly.
