CITY IN BRIEF.
Mr. Henry BrBtz will build a one story frame dwelling in Van Wyck'sstibdirieion at a cost of $600.
A patent has been granted to Mr. Adolph E. Herman, of this city, for a vehicle axle, also a carriage axle nut.
A black shepherd dog, supposed to be mad, and running east on Chestnut street, was shot and killed yesterday between Sixth and Seventh street.
A slight blaze in the residence of Mr. William Johnson, of 715 north Thirteenth street, at 11:10 a. m., yesterday, did but slight damage before being extinguished.
Mr. Richard Kennedy, of 531 north Third Btreet, while crossing between the cars yesterday in the north part of the city, had his foot mashed by being caught between the dead-woods of the cars.
There were three runaways yesterday. The horse of McCarty, the expressman, came tearing along Main street when he struck one of Owen Fredericks' wagons at the Bindley block, and severed all connections with his own wagon. The horse was caught on Sixth street. A colored man named Miller collided with the sulky of young James Crawford on east Main street, breaking down the Bulky,.but doing no injury to the occupant. In the evening a lady in a buggy in the east end was in collision with a carriage, but escaped uninjured.

Ex-Congreseman James T. Johnston is in the city. Mr. W- L. Kidder has returned from a six weeks' visit in the East.
Miss Edith Cook, of Charleston, 111., is visiting her sister, Mrs. E. E. South, of Ohio street.
Mrs. S. H. Stephens, of Pueblo, Cal., is visiting Mrs. H. C. Crampton, at 230 south Seventh street.
The Rev. Mr. Kirtley returned home yesterday from his summer vacation greatly improved in health.
H. E. Harrison, of the firm of Mewhinney & Harrison, has gone to Waukesha, Wis., on a vacation.
Dr. Richardson, at last accounts, was still sinking and his death was considered to be only a question of time.
Mr. John E. Lamb and sister, Mies Katherine, arrived home from the far west last night by the way of Chicago,
Colonel Hudson was reported to be improving yesterday and last evening and there were good grounds for hope that he will recover.
Mr. Charles Bishop, a former Terre Haute boy, but now of New Albany, is in the city visiting the family of W. H. McKaney, of north Second street.

Mr. E. M. Dasher, agent of Hoyt's farcial comedy "A Brass Monkey," is in the city arranging for the presentation of this funny piece at Naylor's on Tuesday evening, September 3d. Mr. Tyner, agent of the Lilly Clay company, is also here booming his company which is billed for Thursday evening, September oth. The Haverly-Cleveland minstrel company will be here on Saturday, September Tth.
This evening theFenner & Crane comedy company will present the beautiful pastoral drama in four acts entitled"Dan'l Boon." Every purchaser of a ticket will receive a number which entitles the holder to a chance in a fancy rocking chair which will be given away at the performance to-night.
Says He Married an Insane Woman.
John Muench has instituted proceedings to have his marriage with Amelia Muench annulled, the latter being made the defendant in the suit. The sole allegation is that she was insane when he married her, in 1ST2, but that the fact was kept from him by her relatives. She was sent to the insane 'asylum in 18SG, and, he alleges, has been declared incurably insane by the hospital authorities. Muench is a carpenter, with the Terre Haute car manufacturing company.
Lawrence Barrett will be supported in his forthcoming production of "Ganelon" by Miss Minna Gale, Minnie Monk, John A.Lane, Lawrence Hanley, J. J. Wallace, Charles Collins, Mark Lynch, Sydney Booth and others. .....

The convention went into a committee on the nomination of lieutenant governor. Both Mr. Neal and Mr. Kline were suggested for nomination by acclamation, but both peremptorily declined.

TRAINS FOR THE FAIR GROUNDS On Thursday and Friday afternoons trains will run regularly between the Union depot and the Vigo fair grounds. First train at 1:15. Last train will leave fair crounds at 6:30 p. m.
