of this city, a man of family, aged about 50 years,. was killed last night at the Harrison minee near Clay City by falling slate. He went down yesterday which was his first day's work there and to-day was brought back a corpse.

June 18.—On May 19th,
one David Rhoten and a man by the name of Boes, abducted a young girl of Jackson township. She was the 13-year old daughter of James Pruett, a farmer. One of them represented himself as an unmarried man, and by this fraudulent representation, persuaded the girl to leave her home. No tidings of their whereabouts can be ascertained since they left. Yesterday ex-Sheriff Hun ser arrested Rhoten and jailed him, but Boer and the girl are still missing. It is said Boes has a family living in Brazil.

Mrs. Will Brant, a Knox county pio neer, died at her home in Vincennes Monday morning aged 78 years.
The new two-story residence of Daniel Braugh, who lives near Logansport, was totally destroyed by fire Monday morning.
The organization of a commercial agency for the protection of merchants was perfected Monday evening, at Marshall.
During the absence from home Sunday evening of the Rsv. W. S. McKellar, of Mattoon, thieves ransacked the house and secured $500 worth of plunder.
Vincennes people to the number of fifty left Tuesday morning for a trip through Alabama. They went to Ev ansville by rail, and there chartered steamer and will make the rest of the trip on the water.

William Pence was assisting in the work of pulling pillars in this mine, where Mike Thompson approached him, and upbraided him for working in the shaft. A fight was the result, during which Pence's ear got tangled inThomp son's mouth and came near being chewed from his head.
