there is a "grease .ipot" on your clothes, stop at the grocer's your way home and get a cake of Ivory Soap. Apply it to the spot with a piece of flannel, wet with hot water rub well, then wet a clean place on the flannel and rub again to remove the soap. .If the spot is of long standing, use a nail brush. Ivory Soap may be safely used upon any cloth, for it will not impair its strength or change the color.
A WORD OF WARNING.
There are many white soaps, each represented to be "just as gooTas the 'Ivory'j" they ARE NOT, but like all counterfeits, lack the peculiar and remarkable qualities of the genuine. Ask for "Ivory" Soap and insist upon getting it.

STRAY INFORMATION.
Among the visitors to the Kinser well Thursday afternoon was a newly married couple pushing before them a baby carriage containing a little cherub but a few months old. They Btopped near the platform surrounding the derrick and became greatly interested in the workings of the machinery, and, bent on satisfying their curiosity, the couple mounted the platform, leaving the sleeping baby in the buggy, and proceeded to make a closer examination of the process of drilling for oil. During the progress of their investigations the keen ear of the mother heard the plaintive wail of her waking infant, and running up to the buggy she gathered it up in her arms and started back to where her husband was standing. An instant after she had removed the baby from the buggy, a heavy plank from the upper part of the rig was loosened by a rope breaking, and fell end foremost into the buggy, from which, but a minute before, the Bleeping child had been removed. When the child's miraculous escape from death dawned on the mother^ mind, and she fully realized what would have happened had not the child began to cry, she clasped it closer to her boeotn and hurried away as fast as she could, looking baok ever now and then as if expecting to see the whole derrick topple over any minute. The husband, with the baby buggy, also hurried off, but in a more deliberate manner. Their names were unknown to the other persons around the well.

to be anffetunr from an attack irfoffsaded dignity, not overcome em ky the me tacleof thouaaodsof dead bodtef. lord mayor thought, Maid his private aaoretary, that Americana were quite rich enough to manage their own diaaatera, but-, what was more important, he did not think they appreciated the charity at the time of the Charleston dieaster. A fund was started, bat the money subscribed was sent back by Charleston's mayor, with the remark that it was not needed. Afterward the lord mayor received numerous press cuttings, describing the raising of fond by the lord mayor as a display of uncalled for advertisement, or, as the Yankees put it, cheek. This had dried up the fountain of the lord mayor's sympathy. Hie latter is just now out of town. The secretary thought perhaps his worship might
a fund if waited upon by a deputation of prominent Americans and asked to do it, but that is not at all likely to happen.
It is only fair to point out that the warm sympathy expresssd by the average Englishman forma a pleasant contrast to the sentiment of Lord Mayor Whitehead as expressed by his secretary, Soulsby.
EGAN NOT RECALLED.
Stat* Department Know* Nothing About HI* Connection with the Cronln Case. Special to the Indianapolis Journal.
WASHINGTON, June 8.—A telegram from New York, published in papers in this vicinity this mornsng, announced in more or lees positive language, according to the ideas of tde writer, that Patrick Egan, of Nebraska, the newly appointed minister to Chili, had men recalled on account of the manner in which his name has been handled during the Cronin investigation in Chicago. The paragraph caused more or lees comment throughout the city, and there was an early rush to the White house andstote department to ascertain what truth there was in the story. At the White house information was to the effect that nothing whatever was known in the matter, and at the state department Mr. Walker Blaine was outspoken in his denunciation of the rumor. Mr. Blaine said the story was absolutely unfounded that the department had never had ite offioial attention called to the connection of Egan's name with the Cronin case, and that the department had never for a moment thought of recalling Mr. Egan. Mr. Blaine added that as the new minister to Chili is only half way on his journey, it would be absurd to send a cablegram to him in any event at the present time.
A Statue of Bruno Unveiled. ROME, June 9.—The statue of Bruno was unveiled to-day with imposing ceremonies. Thirty thousand persons, including students and deputations from various parts of Italy, march in procession through the principal streets. The removal of the canvas covering the Btatue was the signal for deafening cheers. The ceremonies were witnessed by the syndic of Rome, the government officials and a largo number of senators and deputies. Deputy Bovi, in an oration, eulogized the martyr and declared that to-day there was born a new religion of free thought and liberty of conscience, which will be worse for the papacy than the loss of temporal power. After a ban quet, at which 1,000 covers were laid, the procession returned to the starting point and was dismissed. In the evening the monument was illuminated. The proceedings throughout were orderly. The memory of Garibaldi was, honored with an imposing ceremony at the capitol today.
A Hitch in the Pamoao Agreement. LONDON, June 9.—The Berlin corre
spondent of the Times sayB: "There is good reason to believe that the Washington government does not altogether approve the Samoan agreement, especially in regard to foreign control in Samoa. There is no doubt that a hitch has arisen. Apparently there is a divergence of opinion regarding the punishment of Mataafa." The Standard's Berlin correspondent says:uAmerica'sanswer is awaited with calmness, as Germany can not make greater concessions than she has already made."
