At the Ball park yesterday the Creeoents defeated the Eastern Stars by a score of 12 to 3. The playing on either side was not exceptionally good, although the Eastern stars held the opposing nine down to a few hits. Through the wrangling of the players and the "knownothingness" of the umpire a great-many of the spectators vacated the premises before the end of the game. There were about one hundred assembled to witness the contest. During the game Shannon, catcher for the Crescents, had his finger split and nail taken off. He was supplanted by Captain Smith.

The Successor St the Rev. Mr. Smith at the Christian Church.
The Rev. Mr. Brant, the new minister of the Christian congregation, preached his first sermon last evening. The church was not large enough to accommodate all who came to hear him. The members of the church expressed them' selves as well pleased with the sermon and as favorably impressed with their new pastor personally. The Rev. Mr. Brant came to this city from San Diago, Cel., and was complimented by many of his hearers, by being compared very favorably with their late pastor.theRev. B. L-Smith. He will go esst to-day to attend to preliminary arrangements for the publication of a book he has recently written. He expects to bring his family here in the near future.

When, Ob when will our businessmen get their eyee open and learn to patronise legitimate mediums of recognised reputation? Among this clssa stands foremoet the Jamee T. Hair oompany of of Chicago, Ilia., mantifactarers of hotel registers. They have an enormous plant devoted to thia particular business, and supply about eeven tenthe of the botela of the United States, Canada and Mexico, and number among their patrons the leading manufacturers, merchants, professional men etc. The secret of their grand success has been brought about by their practical methods, using persona) solicitations on behalf of their patrons from time to time as an opportunity presents itself. It is also recognized as the only advertising medium of any interest to the hotela. It proteota the patrons from all snapa and schemes, as it appears freeh and clean daily, and ia refened to dozens of timee every day, it being in fact a local directory of the leading business houses of Terre Haute.
When the fact is recognised that a proof aheet of the canvas of Terre Haute will be shown daily hundreda of timee, not only in this state, bat all over the United States by a large number of men in the employ of- this oompany. We prophecy a rush to obtain space. THE DAIEY EXPRESS has plaoed a card in a conspicuous place in these registers, whioh surely is convincing proof that we, regard the mediam as sepond to none. ''s-v
